Don Reid Hankey, age 69, of Gunter, Texas, passed away Friday, March 30, 2018. He was born May 14, 1948, in Durant, Oklahoma, to Carroll Reid and Ruby Belle (Davis) Hankey. Don married Brenda Arthur in Caddo, Oklahoma on January 16, 1982. 

Don spent his entire career serving public schools in Oklahoma and Texas as a teacher, coach, and administrator.

Don is survived by his wife, Brenda Hankey; his children, Brett Hankey and his wife, Christal of Frisco, Rachel Myers and her husband, Nick of Commerce, Amy Porter and her husband, Ashby of Celina, and Jill Dodd and her husband Chris of Gunter; his grandchildren, Melea, Anica and Tanner Hankey, Jolie and Knox Porter, and Luke, Ally, and Sawyer Dodd; his sisters, Carole Ann Shea of Sherman, and Linda Patterson and her husband, Kenny of Sherman, Reta Jackson and her husband, Joe of Granbury, and Jeannette Gray and her husband, Steve of Kenefic, Oklahoma; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Carroll and Ruby Belle Hankey.

Don had a passion for the Lord and his precious family and friends. Don always had a song in his heart and loved to bless others through singing. Don’s hobbies included playing golf and riding ATVs with his friends across the southwestern United States. Don’s greatest joy was spending time with his children and grandchildren. 

Former and current Gunter Independent School District administrators have established a Scholarship fund in Mr. Don Hankey's honor.

Friends are invited to a visitation at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 300 Pecan Street, Gunter, Texas, on Monday, April 2, 2018, from 6:00 to 8:00pm. Mr. Hankey’s Funeral Service will be held at Prestonwood Baptist Church-North Campus, 1001 Prosper Trail in Prosper, Texas, on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Gunter Cemetery.
