Don Barr

Mar 02 1940 - Dec 03 2023

Larry Don Barr, fondly known as Don, passed away on December 3, 2023, at the age of 83. Born on March 2, 1940, to Benjamin Olvy and Pauline (Bandy) Barr in Center, Texas, Don led a life marked by service, love, and dedication to God, family and country.

Don graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1958 and went on to serve his country proudly in the United States Army. After his military service, he earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from Southern Methodist University in 1963. While at SMU, Don was a member of the Delta Chi fraternity and played on the baseball team. He went on to work at Fleming and Sons Paper Company, Texas Instruments, and then became a Partner at Coopers and Lybrand where he retired in 1998.

On July 21, 1962, Don entered into a lifelong commitment of love and partnership when he married Martha Putman in Marshall, Texas. Their union was a testament to the enduring power of love and shared dreams. Don and Martha were active members of The Heights Church in Richardson, Texas, where their faith played a central role in their lives. Don taught Sunday school, served as a Deacon and on various committees. He became an ordained minister in 2021 and officiated the marriage ceremony for both of his granddaughters.

Don is survived by his devoted wife, Martha Barr of Allen, Texas; their two sons, Brooks Barr and wife Melissa of Gunter, Texas, and Blake Barr of Allen, Texas. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Brittany Burkhardt and husband Rich of Richardson, Texas, Taylor Mullens and husband Camry of Anna, Texas, and Bradon Barr and wife Jessica of Aubrey, Texas. Don's joy extended to his great-grandchildren, Fallyn Barr and Vivienne Burkhardt, with another great-grandchild, Graham Mullens, on the way.

In addition to spending time with his family and sharing Christ’s love with others, Don enjoyed gardening, golfing and attending SMU football games.

Don was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose kindness, wisdom, and warmth touched the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know him. He is preceded in death by his parents, leaving behind a legacy of love and commitment to family.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 8, 2023 at The Heights Church-Chapel, 201 W. Renner Road, Richardson, Texas 75080.
