Dolores Melitona Blocher passed away peacefully on August 20, 2023, in Prosper, TX following a brief illness. She was born in Dawson, New Mexico on June 7, 1937, to Virginia Cordova, and raised by her loving mother and grandparents, Roman and Ana Cleta Cordova. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Sydney A. Blocher, Sr.
Dolores was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and served her country as a dedicated career civil servant for over 35 years with the Department of Defense. As a career Human Resources officer, she recruited and hired the brightest scientific minds directly contributing to our nation’s security and freedom. For her decades-long service Dolores was awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Award.
A loving wife of sixty-four years, Dolores raised two children in Albuquerque, NM before moving to Prosper, TX to be closer to her family. As an avid reader, Dolores was a devoted patron of the Prosper Town Library. She was a kind and engaged neighbor who also relished her crossword puzzles and her nightly Chardonnay. Most importantly, she was devoted to her family and made sure they knew and felt her love every day.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Sydney and Wendy Blocher of Prosper, Texas; her daughter and son-in-law Stephanie and Sherman Haworth of Albuquerque, New Mexico; grandchildren Noah and Madelynn Blocher; and sisters Veronica and Michelle of Phoenix, Arizona.
Dolores’s long and accomplished life will be celebrated on Friday, August 25, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., at Berkshire Chapel, 9073 Berkshire Dr., Frisco, Texas, 75033. Interment will take place at 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 8, 2023, at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas, 75211.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her honor to St. Jude Children’s hospital, her favorite charity.
