Dilia Luciano Rivera, age 97, of McKinney, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2024. She was born on March 21, 1927, in Hormigueros, Puerto Rico, to Andres Luciano and Carmen Rivera.
In Hormigueros, Puerto Rico, on September 7, 1945, Dilia married the love of her life, Jose Ferdinand Mojica, who was her beloved husband of 71 years. She was known for her strong will, unwavering determination and love and support for her family and community. In her early years as a school teacher, she became a Girl Scouts troop leader demonstrating to those who knew her the team player, the negotiator and the master communicator she was. Dilia was a dedicated teacher for 40 years and an outstanding leader in her community. She remained an active member of the Lions Club International District 51, Altrusa International District 14 and Alpha Delta Kappa (International Honorary Organization for Women Educators) - Alpha Gamma Chapter until her last days.
Along with her husband, she was a devout member of Our Lady of Monserrat in Hormigueros and later, after moving to McKinney, St. Gabriel The Archangel Catholic Church.
Her life was a living example of love and service, and her spirit continues to inspire and guide us.
She is survived by her daughter, Carmen D. Mojica Luciano of McKinney, Texas; granddaughter, Sasha D. Rosario Mojica and husband, Roberto J. Lopez of McKinney, Texas; grandson, Ramon Ferdinand Rosario Mojica and wife, Idis Torres of Weston, Florida; and great grandchildren, Jose Andres, Paloma Valentina, Camilo Jose, Daniela Ines, Fabiana Belen, Julieta Ester, Ferdinand Jose Monserrate, Juan Pablo, Emma Leonor and Miranda Elena.
Dilia was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jose Ferdinand Mojica; her father, Andres Luciano; and mother, Carmen Rivera; sisters, Aida, Irma and Haydee Luciano; and brothers, Benjamin and Heriberto Luciano.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in her hometown, Hormigueros, Puerto Rico.
