Dewey Lynn Bryant passed away June 17, 2023, in Cairo, Egypt at the age of 84. He was born to Odell and Emma Jean (McCrary) Bryant on August 27, 1938 in Dallas, Texas.
Dewey and his family moved to Lubbock, Texas in 1950. He graduated from Lubbock High School in 1956. Dewey earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Public Administration from Texas Tech University. He was a multi-sport star athlete, but especially loved baseball, which he played at Texas Tech. Following graduation, Dewey entered the United States Air Force Reserve.
Thereafter, Dewey married and became the City Manager of Rosebud and later, Canyon, Texas. While managing Canyon, the United States Agency for International Development recruited Dewey, and he began a professional consultancy career overseas, living all over the world – Bolivia, where his first son David was born, Ethiopia, where he was blessed with his second son, Steven, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Egypt, Mexico, Nepal. In 1990, Dewey met his wife Sahar Gomaa in Egypt. Their daughter, Linda, was born in Egypt in 2001, where they lived for the remainder of his life. Dewey’s family felt the love and devotion he had for them, and will miss him greatly.
Dewey is survived by his wife, Sahar Bryant of Cairo, Egypt; son, David Bryant and wife, Alicia of Dallas, Texas; son, Steven Bryant and wife, Carey of Arlington, Virginia; daughter, Linda Bryant of Cairo, Egypt; grandchildren, Katherine, Morgan, Jack, Grace, and Claudia; sister-in-law, Clydena Bryant, and numerous other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, James Bryant.
Dewey’s funeral service was held on July 6, 2023, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas, and can be viewed at TJMfuneral.com on the following link: https://celebrationoflife.tv/. Dewey is interred at Ridgeview Memorial Park.
