Denise Lynn (Pickett) Sicula of Prosper, TX passed away quietly on the morning of April 7, 2024 after a long battle with primary progressive aphasia and dementia. A loving wife, mother, sister, and friend, Denise was a middle school teacher for 38 years and impacted thousands of young lives throughout her career. Her well-known love of cooking, sewing, and crafts continued throughout her life.
Denise was born on June 30, 1959, at Riverview Hospital in Noblesville, IN to David A. and Carolyn Sue Pickett. She grew up in Arcadia, Indiana and graduated from Hamilton Heights High School. She was active in 4H and Job’s Daughters. She completed her bachelor's degree in Consumer & Family Science at Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN where she was an active member of the Twin Pines co-op. She furthered her education by completing her Master’s degree in Education at Indiana-Purdue University in Fort Wayne, IN.
Her first teaching assignment was at Eastside in Butler, IN. She moved to Angola Middle School in Angola, IN the following year where she taught Consumer & Family Science for twenty years. A family move to Frisco, TX in 2002 saw Denise accept a position in the Frisco Independent School District (FISD) at Staley Middle School. She continued her teaching career there eventually splitting her day between Staley and Pioneer Heritage Middle School, also in Frisco. She retired from teaching in May 2020.
On August 15, 1987, Denise wed her husband of 36 years Tim Sicula at St. Charles Catholic Church in Coldwater, MI. Together they raised and educated three children.
Denise is survived by her husband Tim, her sons Timothy (Jennifer) Sicula, Jr. and Bradley Sicula both of McKinney, TX, daughter Victoria Sicula & her fiancé Michael Grimes of Nashville, TN, granddaughter Sloane Sicula, brother Mark (Maryrose) Pickett of Altadena, CA and brother Russell Pickett of Arcadia, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents David and Carolyn Sue Pickett. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to a Visitation at the Berkshire Chapel, 9073 Berkshire Drive, Frisco, Texas 75033, on Friday, April 12, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at the Berkshire Chapel on Saturday, April 13, 2024, beginning at 10:00 AM.
