Born April 26, 1962, in Lufkin, Texas to Leroy and Bernestine Denman Garner. She was the youngest of three children. Lisa attended school at Central ISD and graduated from Lamar University, Beaumont Texas with a Bachelors in Social Work. She worked for Juliette Fowler Children’s Home in Dallas immediately after College.
Lisa’s passion was always children. She went back to school shortly after her tenure with Juliette Fowler and received her teaching certification for Elementary Education. She then went on to work for Plano ISD in 1994 and continued to work for the district at Hunt Elementary until her untimely passing. She received numerous nominations during her career for teacher of the year. She was an active member of the Association of Texas Professional Educators, the Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society, and the Teach for Jamaica program that allowed her to travel every summer with a group of teachers sharing text books and teaching materials with the islanders. She absolutely loved this program.
Lisa had another passion outside of teaching, she loved to bake. She was known for the infamous white cake in our family and baked one for every family event. Her other favorites were a Strawberry Cake and Carmel Cake that she loved sharing with others. Lisa had a special charm, her sweetness, and everyone experienced it instantly upon meeting her. She loved chatting with strangers, finding out all she could about them then sharing it others. Her best friends, Lola and Victoria will have a lifetime of memories to keep close in their hearts.
Lastly, her favorite of all was her son Jordan. Lisa and Jordan were a dynamic duo as Jordan loved to cook too. They were in car every weekend going to band competitions or Six Flags with a car load of friends. Jordan left for San Antonio to go to college and her travels down there became regular exciting weekend excursions.
Lisa loved her family to no end and they loved her back. She would often say, I’m not ready to go back to Plano, I want to spend just a little more time with everyone. She was a treasure and will be greatly missed.
