Deacon Jimmy Jones

On July 26, 1942, Deacon Jimmy Jones was born in Frisco< Texas to Charlie and Arretta Jones. Jimmy attended and completed his education at Fredrick Douglas High School in Plano, Texas. Jimmy grew up in a close-knit family and was raised with a strong sense of community and responsibility. Jimmy married Clara Williams in 1964, and to their union four children were born: Darrell, Cynthia, Brenda, and Charlotte. He accepted Christ as his savior and participated in the choir and held the position of Chairman of the Deacon Board at Hamilton Chapel Baptist Church for over twenty years.

Prior to becoming ill, Jimmy had a successful career as an over of a construction company, doing work for the City of Frisco as well as Frisco ISD. Jimmy’s work in the community did not go unnoticed, as he has a City of Frisco Park bearing his name – Jimmy & Clara Jones Park. Jimmy was an advocate for informing others about the Black History of Frisco. He would speak at the Frisco Heritage Museum and various schools, sharing his experiences of growing up in Frisco during segregation. Jimmy enjoyed fishing, playing dominoes, and fixing “broken” items. He spent his time mentoring as well as coaching both women (Frisco Stars) and mens (Gotcha) softball.

Jimmy Jones departed this life on the 22nd of November as Vitas Inpatients Hospice Unit in Carrollton, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie, and Arretta Jones; his siblings: Curtis Bishop, George Bishop, Claude Jones, Roy Jones, Clarence Jones and Ellen Jones.

Jimmy leaves to cherish in his memory: his loving wife, Clara Jones of Frisco, Texas; his wonderful children, Darrell Jones of Frisco, Texas, Cynthia Davis of Frisco, Texas, Brenda (Willie) Williams of Frisco, Texas and Charlotte (Eric) Simmons of Frisco, Texas; grandchildren, Oliver (Hannah) Davis of Dallas, Texas and Whitney Williams of Dallas, Texas; great-grandchildren, Ryleigh, Oliva and Oliver III; siblings, Charlene Sampson (Alfred) of Lewisville, Texas Rosie Jones of Lewisville, Texas Samuel Jones of Lewisville, Texas; his special friend, William Fore of Celina, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other family.

Family and friends are invited to a Visitation at Berkshire Chapel, 9073 Berkshire Drive, Frisco, Texas 75033, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at Eternity Community Church, 12550 Independence Parkway, Frisco, Texas 75035, on Saturday, December 2, 2023, beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Ridgeview West Memorial Park, 7800 Sanctuary Drive, Frisco, Texas 75033.
