David W. Wetzel—also affectionately known as Tank, Coach, Dave, Dad, and Grandpa—of McKinney, Texas passed away on May 22, 2025, at the age of 68 while surrounded by family.
David was born on April 8, 1957, in Canyon, Texas to Paul and Verlie Wetzel. He graduated from Canyon High in 1975 and soon after married his beloved wife, Brenda Sellers, with whom he enjoyed 49 years of marriage.
The first in his family to ever earn a college degree, David graduated from West Texas State University in 1989. He spent 27 years working for the State of Texas, where he retired in 2017. David was a cherished soccer coach, an avid and accomplished genealogist, a loving father and brother, a fiercely devoted husband, and a beloved Grandpa.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Wetzel of McKinney, Texas; his sons and daughters-in-law, Jared and Carrie Wetzel of Wildwood, Missouri and Jacob and Annie Wetzel of Royse City, Texas; his brother, Ron Wetzel of Amarillo, Texas; and his grandchildren, Josh Wetzel of Los Angeles, California, Caleb and Luke Wetzel of Wildwood, Missouri, and Abbie, Ethan, Isaac, and Emma Wetzel of Royse City, Texas.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, June 27, 2025, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
