IN LOVING MEMORY

David W. Faulkner

Nov 19 1975 - Oct 01 2024

David W. Faulkner, 48, of McKinney, Texas passed away unexpectedly on October 1, 2024. David was a light in everyone’s life, illuminating the world with kindness and empathy. His love for the universe was a reflection of his own spirit—he saw beauty in the vastness of the cosmos, in the details of nature, and in every creature he encountered. He shared the greatest love story of all with his wife, Allison, his soulmate and the love of his life.

David was born in Dallas, Texas, the son of Larry and Joni Faulkner. He attended Texas Tech University, earning a degree in Computer Science, laying the foundation for a career that would touch countless lives.

As a Senior Software Engineer at Tyler Technologies, David spent the past 15 years creating software that helped cities function more effectively. He also worked at Texas Tech University, supporting the Athletics Department, Distance Learning programs, and Teaching and Learning Center, where he met Allison. Throughout his career, David was known for his expertise, brilliance, and dedication as much as his enthusiasm and kindness.

David lived with a sense of wonder about the universe. He was always looking up. An avid amateur astronomer, astrophotographer and member of the Texas Astronomical Society, he spent nights photographing the beauty of the cosmos. David also enjoyed flying, whether it was piloting model airplanes or navigating his virtual reality flight simulator, always seeking new perspectives on the world. His passion for exploration extended to a love of science fiction, non-fiction and philosophy, where he found inspiration exploring other worlds and new ways of thinking. David was known for the life-size, working R2D2 replica he built, which he took on the road to schools and children’s homes, bringing joy to those he didn’t even know.

David's love for animals was as boundless as his fascination with the sky. He grew up with dogs and later fell in love with cats but loved all living creatures. He and Allison shared Monk, Toby and Eliot, all of whom he considered his children. He rescued wildlife from his backyard, taking them to a nearby creek for safety. He and Allison loved to travel, especially for animal-themed vacations and goat yoga, and he lent his support to local animal rescues. Allison and David shared a passion for creating things together, from acrylic and watercolor paintings - David was an incredible artist -- to building custom houses, cars and trolleys for their cats.

David’s love for astronomy and the skies reflected his belief that there was always something wonderful waiting to be discovered. This is a testament to his hopeful spirit—his gaze always turned toward the stars. His love for animals was symbolic of his caring and gracious nature, always lifting up those in need.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Allison Boye; his parents, Joni and Larry Faulkner; his parents-in-law, Rick and Leslie Boye; and his brothers-in-law, Brian Boye and Robert Pendilla. He will be missed by countless aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and colleagues, all of whom had the privilege of experiencing his warmth and generosity.

Just as David was fascinated with the stars, he brought joy to those around him, encouraging others to see the wonder in the world. His light shone brightly, and it will continue to guide and uplift everyone who knew him.
