IN LOVING MEMORY

David Michael Lackie

Sep 29 1943 - Aug 21 2023

David Michael Lackie died Monday, August 21, 2023 at 4:36 p.m. in Plano, Texas with most of his family and loved ones by his side. He was 79 years old.

David "Dave" was born September 29, 1943 in Duluth, Minnesota to parents Russell William Lackie and Dorothy Lois Oren Lackie. He grew up in Duluth where he became an avid fisherman, hunter, trapper and arrowhead hunter as a very young child. Dave loved the outdoors all his life because of his very active, rural childhood in Minnesota. He was especially fond of the time he spent growing up and learning about wildlife and nature with his uncle, Roger Oren, who lived on the Gooseberry River near Two Harbors, Minnesota. When Dave was 14, his father’s job required the family to move to Lakewood, Colorado where he played on the Lakewood High football team and proudly won the 1960 Colorado State Championship and where he met the love of his life, Dottie Kay Malone. Dave and Dottie were married on October 12, 1962, in Seattle, WA and had 3 children, Jeannie Marie Root-Lehmkuhl, Jeffery Michael Lackie and Steven Joseph Lackie. Dave and Dottie remained married for almost 62 years!

In 1969, Dave and Dottie moved to McKinney, Texas where they bought the iconic Steffey’s Jiffy Dog Drive-In and ran it for 12 years. In the early 80’s Dave became an antique furniture refinisher and dealer and opened Dottie Kay’s Antiques, one of the very first antique shops ever on McKinney Square. He later worked at the McKinney Junk Co. and later Stubb’s Iron & Metals in Denton, Texas. He was a father figure and mentor to many employees and customers who loved him for about 20 years.

Dave was especially well known for his knowledge and vast collection of Native American Indian Artifacts. He had a very witty sense of humor and was loved by countless friends. He deeply loved animals, especially his late dog, Bella.

He is survived by his wife, Dottie Kay Lackie; three children, Jeannie Marie Root-Lehmkhulh, Jeff Michael Lackie and wife, Shelley, and Steven Joseph Lackie and wife, Daniele; sister, Dianne Landry, and her husband Bill, of Seattle, Washington. He was very proud of his 8 grandchildren, Ashley Lehmkuhl Karn and husband, Johnathon of Clinton, Iowa, Perry Lehmkuhl (Alisha) of Friendswood, Texas, Megan Michelle Lackie (Anthony) Williams of Allen, Texas, Matthew Michael Lackie and wife, Maggie of Lafayette, Louisiana, Mark David Lackie and wife, Kailyn of McKinney, Texas, Alexis Paige Trimble and husband, Hank of Denton, Texas, Megan Elise Negrete and husband, Phillip of Denton, Texas, and Ashton Taylor Lackie Gellerup and husband, Spencer of Knoxville, Tennessee; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents and great-granddaughter, Autumn Geneva Duckett.

A remembrance gathering will be held at 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., Sunday, August 27, 2023 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas.
