David Lynn McKinney, 64, of Whitewright, Texas went home to be with Jesus on September 19th after a long illness. Born in Heavener, Oklahoma the son of Mr. Edgar William McKinney and Mrs. Mannie Marie McKinney, and the youngest of six children, David graduated from Honey Grove High School in Texas, where he played football. He worked as a millwright, owning his own company at one point, and was a lifelong football fan. He was married 40 years to his beloved wife, the late Brenda Jane Geers McKinney, daughter of the late Dr. & Mrs. Paul E. Geers of Whitewright, Texas, who passed away on February 23rd from a long battle with cancer. He was step-father to Brenda’s three children, Terry, Holly and Paul. Paul and Holly both have fond memories of their time with David while growing up in East Texas during their junior high and high school years in Winnsboro. David had a quick wit, infectious laugh, loved watching old westerns, reading a good book and he appreciated a well-crafted pocket knife. He and Brenda enjoyed many years living on the coast in Galveston, where David fished, biked along the seawall and spent time with their grandchildren on the beach. David enjoyed many years of love from his step-children and step-grandchildren, during which he went on vacations with “B.J.” and their grandkids. Some favorite trips he talked about often were their trip to California and when he drove several grandchildren and B.J. up Pike’s Peak in Colorado. He was always kind to everyone he met, and we will miss him. We are comforted by the fact that he is in the arms of Jesus, whom he had recently accepted as his savior, and we celebrate that he is re-united with Brenda whom he had been missing so much.
We miss you already David and Paw Paw, but we know that God has called you home, and we look forward to seeing you again. For now, we will rejoice in knowing that you are with our Lord & Savior forever.
