David Joseph Magaster, 71, passed away March 14, 2026, in Frisco, Texas with his wife Barbara by his side. He was born on January 8, 1955, in Passaic, New Jersey, to Elmer and Beverly (Decker) Magaster. During his early years, the family moved to Spring Lake, “down the Jersey Shore”. It was there that he met the love of his life Barbara Ann Schiele. On Valentines Day in 1973, David left for the United States Air Force where he spent 8 years working in the operating room at Blytheville Air Force Base in Arkansas and Carswell Airforce Base in Texas. On November 1, 1975, David and Barbara were married at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Bricktown, NJ. The Air Force took them to Arkansas, and then to Fort Worth, Texas where they settled.
Upon his honorable discharge, Dave attended DeVry University earning his Bachelors in Computer Science. After many years in the technology industry, he followed his first career love of medicine and attended the Meridian Institute of Surgical Assisting to earn his degree for Surgical First Assistant. He did his clinical internship at the VA Hospital in Dallas, assisting in over 140 cases during that time, developing a love of trauma and orthopedics.
David was a member of the Association of Surgical Technologists and was a member of the board that wrote the questions for the final exam. He is a published author who wrote the orthopedic chapter in “The Practice and Principles of Surgical Assisting” by Rebecca Hall. He also wrote a venom protocol for snake bites.
David was a third-degree Black Belt in Tai Kwon Do. He became a scuba diver doing his first dive in Jamaica. His deep love of the ocean led him to become a Master Scuba Instructor. He and Barbara dove the Caribbean, Mexico and Australia. David was the creator and purveyor of Divine Swine Bacon and Bacon Crack. IYKYK.
Dave is survived by his wife, Barbara Schiele Magaster, of Aubrey, Texas; son, Mikäel Magaster, and his wife Cierra, and grand-dog Azzi of Chicago, Illinois; brother, Bob Magaster and his wife Colleen of Overland Park, Kansas; sister, Carol Sapp of Kansas City, Missouri and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
David was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Beverly Magaster, and brother-in-law, Ted Sapp.
We remember his quick wit and sense of humor, grand diving and karate stories, that mustache and quivering lip and of course that infectious laugh of his! And, just in case you didn’t know, he would want you to know that he only has one kidney….
Family and friends will forever cherish his memory.
