IN LOVING MEMORY

David Clyde Drake, Jr.

Jan 11 1941 - Aug 15 2026

David C. Drake, Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 15, 2026. He was born to David and Naomi Drake on January 11, 1941, in Poteau, Oklahoma.

David grew up in Talihina, Oklahoma and graduated from Talihina High School and attended Oklahoma State University. In 1965, he married Susan and together they shared 61 years of marriage rooted in love, faith, family, and stories that grew more treasured with time. They welcomed their son, Michael, in 1968 and their son, Scott, in 1975.

David worked for Liberty National Bank in Oklahoma City for 24 years in data processing. He later worked for American Bank Systems as a software developer, where he eventually retired.

David faithfully served the Lord for many years. He taught Sunday School for more than 50 years and served as a deacon at Henderson Hills Baptist Church in Edmond, Oklahoma. His faith was steady, his service was meaningful, and his love for Scripture and the church shaped the way he lived and led. Isaiah 6:8 reflects the heart with which he served: “And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ Then I said, ‘Here I am! Send me.’”

To his grandchildren, David was lovingly known as “Grumpy”—or, during their toddler years, sometimes “Monkey” or “Bumpy.” It was a name he wore well and with affection. He enjoyed reading, collecting antique grandfather clocks acquired by his father and often delivered by hearse, and turning off the television when a game was not going the way he believed it should. He could boo loudly enough at football games to make sure his opinion was heard.

Some of David’s best stories came from his childhood growing up in a funeral home. One family favorite involved a casket that came out of a car, rolled into a creek, and floated downstream. His stories, humor, and unmistakable personality will remain treasured parts of his family’s memories.

David is reunited in heaven with his parents and close friends. He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by his wife, Susan Drake; his son, Michael Drake (Patricia) of Frisco, Texas; his son, Scott Drake (LeAnn) of Carrollton, Texas; and his grandchildren, Katie (Drake) Wilkins (Jonathan) of Frisco, Texas; and Keith Drake and Tate Drake of Carrollton, Texas.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday, August 24, 2026, at 10 AM, at First Baptist Church at the Fields, 1401 Carrolton Parkway, Carrollton, TX, 75010.

In memory of David, contributions can be made to First Baptist Church at the Fields Building Fund at firstfields.org/give.
