David Burl Calloway, 89, of Athens, Texas, passed away in his home on Sunday, January 1, 2023.
David Burl Calloway was born December 13, 1933 to father, Johnnie Calloway, and mother, Lola Withrow Calloway, in their family home of the Nobility Community, near Trenton, Texas. After retirement, David moved to Athens, Texas, where he resided for the last 26 years. He had a passion for tractors, heavy equipment, and everything John Deere. He loved growing his own produce and did it since he was on his family farm producing cotton and peaches. He loved to talk and tell stories, especially telling you his two cents on how things should be done. Before retiring, David resided in the Oak Cliff Community of Dallas. He spent most of his career in the trucking industry, hauling products all over the United States. After many life-changing events, David would reconnect with his grade school sweetheart, Peggy Burleson, and live out their final days together. She was the love of his life.
He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Calloway; mother, Lola Withrow Douglas; Aunt and Uncle, Jim and Zettie Donaghey; grandparents, C.C. and Mary Withrow.
He is survived by his son, Ronnie Rowe of Athens; daughter, Tammy Sanford of Sanger; step-daughter, Pam Walker of Dallas; step-son, Greg Curry of Mesquite; granddaughter Randi and John Kinabrew of Bradford; grandson Bradley and Krystin Rowe of Athens. Great-grandchildren: Callie Harris; Lola, Tom, and Charlie Kinabrew; Kasen and Brecken Rowe.
Long-time neighbor and friend, Jeremy Meredith, will officiate graveside at West Shady Grove Cemetery in Blue Ridge, Texas on Friday, January 6, 2023, at 11:00am.
