Daniel August Hoffman of McKinney, Texas passed away on January 14, 2021 at the age of 91. He was born on October 9, 1929 to William Hoffmann and Olivia Landwehr in Waite Park, Minnesota. While on leave from serving his country in the United States Air Force, Daniel met Mary Ann Pederson on a blind date. They married on May 26, 1956 and he embarked on a long career in the Airline Industry. In 1963, he relocated his family to Dallas, Texas with Braniff International, where he retired in 1982 as Director of Line Maintenance. He spent the next few years in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia with ServAir/Arabasco. Upon returning to the United States, he served for 10 years as Production Manager of Hangar Aircraft Maintenance for American Airlines.
Upon his final retirement, he designed and built a home on Lake Cypress Springs, where he enjoyed fishing, boating, riding around on his golf cart, helping his neighbors, wrangling squirrels and watching wildlife through one of his many pair of binoculars.
Dan always put his family first and was quick with a joke or a silly song. The Hoffman house was always full of joy and laughter. He could fix almost anything and his daughters and their friends knew they could depend on him if they ever needed help. He loved airplanes, motorcycles, power tools, building birdhouses with his grandsons, and little kids, especially the sassy ones.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Hoffman of McKinney, Texas; daughters, Kathy Smiley and husband, George of Pearland, Texas, Nancy Rowe and husband, Jason of Frisco, Texas, Janie Merle and husband, Kenny of Royse City, Texas, Carole Gardner and husband, Mike of Allen, Texas; granddaughters, Natalie Fernandez and husband, Rick, and Rebecca Smith and husband, Adam; grandsons, Grayson Gardner and Jacob Smiley; great grandsons, Nicolas Fernandez and Cristian Fernandez; sister, Mary Ann Salin of Renton, Washington; and numerous other loving family and friends.
