IN LOVING MEMORY

Dan Christie

May 08 1944 - May 06 2006

Danny "Dan" David Christie, age 61, of Prosper, Texas, passed away May 6, 2006, in Bryan County, Oklahoma. He was born May 8, 1944, in Dallas, Texas, to David Paul and Mary Helen (Sandlin) Christie. Dan developed a love of athletics as a child, playing eight man football at Prosper High School, where he graduated in 1962. As a senior, he was selected for the Texas All Star Team. He coached and taught in the Dallas ISD for 4 years after receiving a B.S. from the University of North Texas in 1968. As good as teaching and coaching were to Dan, he had big dreams to run his own business. In May, 1972 he left DISD and went into the real estate business. Shortly thereafter, he founded Collin County Land Company, a real estate and land development company he owned and operated until his death. Last year one of Dan’s dreams came to fruition when he spearheaded the drive to re-name the men’s gym at UNT after his favorite coach, Ken Bahnsen. He also helped establish the Kenneth Bahnsen Gymnasium Scholarship fund. Some of Dan’s fondest memories were of his years at UNT. He has been honored twice by the university for his commitment of time and resources, in 1991 receiving the Outstanding Alumnus Service Award and on April 21, 2006, the Green Glory Award. Dan has served as President of the UNT Trustees and as a member of the Prosper City Council and the Prosper ISD Board of Trustees, as well as on the boards of several local banks. Possibly the greatest gift Dan possessed was his love and concern for others. All who know him can attest to his generosity and loyalty. He is survived by his daughter, Effie Christie and husband, Brian Gilbert of Prosper, Texas; granddaughter, Dylan Christie Blase also of Prosper; brother, John S. Christie and wife, Susan of Frisco, Texas; niece, Allison Christie also of Frisco; and a host of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 13 at 11:00 a.m. at the Prosper High School gymnasium, with Rev. Scott Jones officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 4425 W. Airport Freeway, Irving, TX 75062.
