Dale Dowdy

Dale Dowdy of McKinney, Texas passed away December 7, 2024 at the age of 82. He was born to Clarence LaVern and Vertia Irene (Olive) Dowdy on June 17, 1942 in Granite, Greer County, Oklahoma.

Dale was a member of the 1960 graduating class of Duncan High School.  He went on to graduate from Oklahoma State University in 1964 with a degree in Mathematics.  Although he began his career as a math teacher at Roosevelt Junior High in Oklahoma City where he met his wife, Karin, he quickly changed careers and began working in computer science. He and Karin moved to Kent, Washington and shortly after to the Santa Clara Valley area of California where he spent his career working in Silicon Valley on a variety of projects, analyzing & designing systems from industrial electronics to missiles & space vehicles. He spent the last twenty years of his career as the IT Director for LAM Industries. After 38 years in California, he and Karin relocated to McKinney, Texas.

He was very competitive and loved sports, but basketball was his favorite. He and Karin held season tickets to Stanford Women's Basketball for many years. The were both extremely active in tennis and belonged to two tennis clubs. He water skied, snow skied, played tennis, ping pong, and pool and excelled in them all. He was an especially accomplished pool player. 

In later years, he and Karin spent 10 years traveling around the US in their 38 foot Alpine motor coach, before buying a Condo and boat in Fort Myers Beach, Florida where they spent six months a year for the last 15 years enjoying boating. He was most generous in sharing this passion with his family members and loved showing them around the area in his boat. Dale loved family above all else. He was extremely proud of his son and grandson who were his true pride and joy .

Dale is survived by his son, Austin Dowdy of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; grandson, Lee Dowdy of Oshkosh, Wisconsin; brother, Kent Dowdy and wife, Mary Ellen of Summerfield, North Carolina; sister, Cindy Daunis and husband, Gene of McKinney, Texas; niece, Ashley Klimek and husband, Ryan of Glen Allen, Virginia; nephew, Drew Daunis and wife, Sharolyn of Grand Prairie, Texas; and nephew, Trey Daunis and wife, Ana of Plano, Texas as well as several grand nephews.

Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Karin Dowdy, and parents, Clarence and Irene Dowdy.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at Turrentine Jackson Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas, 75013.  The service will also be live streamed at the following link: https://celebrationoflife.tv/blog/dale-dowdy.  After the service, the recorded live stream will be available for viewing at the same link location.  

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be directed to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
