Daisy Thelma Clifton Gurley

Daisy Thelma Clifton Gurley passed away April 14, 2005, at Baylor Hospital of Dallas. She was born to Edgar Berry Clifton and Daisy Elizabeth Kelly Clifton in Commerce, Texas Hunt County. She married Elmer Calvert Gurley in December 1932 and resided in Dallas, Texas for 54 years. She moved to McKinney, Texas in 1986. Thelma graduated from North Texas State University, Denton, Texas with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and a Masters Degree in Supervision of Elementary Education. She taught for 32 years. At the time of her retirement she was teaching at Dan D. Rogers Elementary School in Dallas. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of McKinney and belonged to circle #2. She was an active member of The Heritage Guild of Collin County, the Wednesday Book Review Club, McKinney Republican Women, Alpha Delta Kappa Educational Sorority of Dallas, life member of Dan D. Rogers PTA Dallas, Eldorado Ladies Association, McKinney and former member of the McKinney Art Club. She is survived by daughter, Jean Gurley Williams and husband, Frank L. Williams, Jr.; grandchildren, Frank L. Williams, III and wife, Susan, Arthur Calvert Williams and wife, Debbie; great grandchildren, Susan Nicole Williams and Christine Frances Williams all of McKinney; nieces, Dr. Mickie Hart and husband, Frank Hart, Sr, of Dallas, Betty Jo Hill and husband, Don of Hullshear, Texas, Bennye Renee Miller and husband, Bill of Lubbock, Texas, Candice Maud (Candy) Temple and husband Griffith of Hitchcock, Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Calvert Gurley, both parents, four brothers, three sisters and one nephew. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of McKinney, The Heritage Guild of Collin County or the charity of your choice. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 18, 2005, at First Presbyterian Church of McKinney with Rev. Alan Farquhar, Dr. Jim Palmer and Rev. Clay Brantley officiating. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park in Dallas. It was Mrs. Gurley’s request that her family receives friends for viewing at 616 Finch Street in McKinney. Viewing will be held from 7:00-9:00 p.m., Sunday. Arrangements are under the direction of Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Directors.
