Daisy Rollins, age 80, of Allen, Texas passed from this life into a better place on September 15, 2007. Daisy was born on February 11, 1927, in Dorchester, Texas to James Nathan Skaggs and Jessie Lola (Wilson) Skaggs. On November 3, 1945, she married J.C. Rollins in McKinney, Texas. To this marriage four children were born. Daisy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Allen.
Mrs. Rollins is survived by her sons, Ronnie Rollins and his wife, Pat of McKinney, Texas, James Rollins and wife, Nancy of Goldthwaite, Texas, and Gary Rollins and wife, Sharon of Allen, Texas; daughter, Gloria Rollins Bailey and her husband, Brian of McKinney. Daisy is also survived by eight grandchildren, Eddie Shafer of The Woodlands, Texas, Greg Rollins of Houston, Texas, Michelle Rollins Derrick of Van Alstyne, Texas, Matt Rollins of McKinney, Melanie Rollins Vess of Mesquite, Texas, Matt Meyer of Goldthwaite, Cristal Rollins of Allen, and Brooke Bailey of McKinney. Daisy had 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Joyce Mathis of Collinsville, Texas and Patsy Morriss of Midland, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, J.C. Rollins; brothers, A.D. Skaggs, W.D. Skaggs, and Charles Skaggs; sisters, Natie Cooper, Mattie Gary and Mary Swindle.
Daisy worked as a bookkeeper for Gibson’s Discount Center from 1964 -1984. In 1984, Daisy went to work as a bookkeeper for Suburban Propane in McKinney where she worked until her retirement in 2004 at the age of 77.
“Momma Daisy”, as she was fondly called by many, was a second mom to numerous friends. Daisy loved to travel to the mountains. She was an avid fan of college and pro football, especially the Dallas Cowboys. Her home was always open to family and friends. She loved to cook for 2 or 20.
Daisy had many cherished friends, especially her “chicken foot group”, Geneva, Fannie, Peggy, June and Minetta.
The Rollins family would like to extend their appreciation to Daisy’s wonderful and generous neighbors of many years, Louis and Vonda Bothe and also Rocky and Pam Gardner.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 17, 2007, at the First Baptist Church of Allen with Rev. Chad Selph officiating. Interment will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday at Collinsville Cemetery, Collinsville, Texas. The family will receive friends for visitation from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday at the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to cancer research or a charity of your choice.
