Cynthia “Kay” (Newell) Daugherty of Melissa, Texas passed away on July 29, 2021 at the age of 73. She was born on June 16, 1948 to Homer Odell Newell and Helen (Stewart) Newell in Dallas, Texas. Kay grew up in Dallas and graduated from South Oak Cliff High School in 1966. She married Clarence Daugherty on July 12, 1969 in Dallas, Texas. Kay was Teacher’s Aide in the Allen Independent School District as well as San Antonio Independent School District. She loved painting, crafts, cooking and gardening. Kay was a member of Cottonwood Creek Church, Allen, Texas.
Kay is survived by her husband, Clarence Daugherty of Melissa, Texas; sons, Heath Daugherty and wife, Kim of Melissa, Texas and Lee Daugherty of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren, Gracie Daugherty and Owen Daugherty, both of Melissa, Texas; brother, Glynn Newell and wife, Dawn of Bedford, Texas; nieces and nephews, Shereé Crespin and husband, Johnny, Todd Newell and wife, Jennifer, Caleb Newell and Ashlyn Brothers and husband, Derrick; and a host of other loving family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer and Helen Newell.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Cottonwood Creek Baptist Church, 1015 Sam Rayburn Tollway, Allen, Texas 75013. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park for a committal service.
Following the service at the church, the family invites those attending for a time of food and fellowship.
Private family graveside services will take place at Ridgeview Memorial Park, Allen, Texas.
