IN LOVING MEMORY

Connie Ola Gibson

Apr 08 1943 - Sep 02 2024

Connie Ola Gibson, age 81, of Blue Ridge, Texas, passed away on September 2, 2024, in Conroe, Texas. She was born on April 8, 1943, in Amsterdam, Missouri, to Roy Van Slyke and Opal Mae (Daniels) Van Slyke.

Connie is lovingly remembered by her husband of 52 years, Jimmy Gibson, of Blue Ridge, Texas; her daughter, Rhonda Gibson, also of Blue Ridge, Texas; her son, Randy Gibson, and his wife, Emily, of Plano, Texas. She is also survived by her brother, Dale Van Slyke, and his wife, Linda, of Leawood, Kansas; her sister, Vesta Burbank, and her husband, Leonard, of Baldwin City, Kansas; as well as many cherished nieces and nephews. Connie was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Jack Van Slyke, and his wife, Doris; and her sister, Gladys Clark, along with her brother-in-law, Willis Clark.

Connie started her career with seven years at Bendix in Missouri, followed by four years at the University of Missouri. After relocating to Dallas, she became a secretary for Earl Hayes Jr. at Earl Hayes Chevrolet. It was in Dallas that she met Jimmy, introduced by a mutual friend in the backyard of a rental house he owned.

She and Jimmy shared a successful life together, working side by side for over half a century. Their adventures took them around the world by plane, boat, and even in classic cars like a ’53 Mercury and a ’32 Ford.

Connie had a passion for the outdoors, particularly hunting and fishing, and enjoyed many memorable trips to Alaska.

Connie had a passion for exploring thrift shops, where she loved finding unique clothes, jewelry and especially hats—her overflowing closet was a testament to her enthusiasm.

A visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church of Blue Ridge on Saturday, September 7, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with services beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Cemetery in Blue Ridge, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Masonic Lodge #490 in Blue Ridge, Texas, to support the Scholarship Fund for Blue Ridge High School graduates.
