Colonel A. L. “Pete” McCormick, III (U. S. Army, Ret.), age 71, of McKinney, Texas, passed away August 3, 2011, in his home after a battle with cancer. Pete was born August 2, 1940, in Los Angeles, California, to Allen Leslie and Mary Helen (Heisler) McCormick, II. He married Ann Bise on December 29, 1961, in East Liverpool, Ohio. Pete grew up in Arizona and left the desert southwest to attend Virginia Military Institute (VMI) and he graduated in 1961. He served as an Army officer with assignments in the Dominican Republic, Panama, combat tours in Vietnam, and stateside tours at Fort Bragg, North Carolina and Fort Eustis, Virginia. After military service Pete settled in Ohio and finally McKinney, Texas. Colonel A. L. “Pete” McCormick was an excellent athlete, patriot, scholar, gentleman, writer, soldier, husband, father, grandfather, and the finest friend. He loved the Arizona mountains, TCU football, and cherished his wife, children, and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Ann McCormick of McKinney, Texas; son, Allen L. McCormick, IV and wife, Kathy of West Chester, Ohio; daughter, Lori McCormick Tramel of McKinney, Texas; and grandchildren, Kaiti Tramel, Peyton McCormick, Karie Joy Tramel, Mary McCormick, Mac McCormick, Kensie Tramel, Lara Tramel, and Kade Tramel. The family is arranging for burial at Arlington National Cemetery with details on time and date still to be determined.
