Colette Mavis Petr of Plano, Texas passed away on August 14, 2021 at the age of 78. She was born on May 26, 1943 to Walter and Ella (Klenovich) Bartels in Chicago, Illinois. She married Thomas Petr on July 9, 1966 in Chicago, Illinois.
Colette was a 1965 graduate of Northern Illinois, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Education. Later in life, she earned an Associate of Applied Science in Animal Medical Technologies, awarded from Cedar Valley College in 1997. In her work as a Registered Veterinary Technician, Colette was known for her care and compassion for her animal patients.
Colette stayed active in her community, no matter where she lived. She was a loyal volunteer at Landmark Park while residing in Dothan, Alabama and locally, was an ardent supporter of the YMCA of Plano, Texas for many years. She was a proud member of the Texas Chapter 6 of Blue Star Mothers of America where she supported her daughter, Tammy, while she served in Iraq with the United States Army. She loved to bake, often making cookies for family, friends, neighbors and even the people who serviced her vehicle. Colette was of Christian faith.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Petr of Plano, Texas; daughter, Tammy Jones and husband, Gary of Hood River, Oregon; and a host of loving friends.
Colette was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Ella Bartels and brother, Richard Bartels.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
Inurnment will be held in Mount Hood, Oregon at a later date.
