In Loving Memory of Col. Denny Grant Seabolt, Jr.
It is with profound sadness, deep love, and enduring respect that we announce the passing of Col. Denny Grant Seabolt, Jr., U.S. Marine Corps (Ret.), known warmly to everyone as Grant Seabolt. Grant was born on March 9, 1954, and passed away peacefully early in the morning at 1:00 AM on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at the age of 72, after a courageous battle with stage four cancer of the liver and pancreas. His passing was formally declared by a nurse from Concho Hearts Hospice. Surrounded by the deep devotion of his family, his final days were filled with storytelling, laughter, and an abundance of love.
A Life of Service and Honor
Grant lived a life defined by commitment, honor, and duty. He served a highly distinguished 26-year career in the United States Marine Corps, rising to the rank of Colonel (O-6). As a Judge Advocate (JA), he expertly balanced the roles of a senior military officer and an elite legal professional, serving as a vital asset to the Marine Corps Judge Advocate Division.
Following his military retirement, Grant continued his legal advocacy as a respected corporate and securities lawyer in Texas. He was deeply passionate about serving his fellow veterans and was a highly active, elected leader within the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Grant proudly served as the Post 8913 Commander, the District 3 Commander, and ultimately as the elected State Judge Advocate for the Department of Texas VFW. To all the Marines and veterans in Texas who knew him, he wasn't just an attorney; he was a brother who considered you family. He fought with everything he had to guide his brothers-in-arms through any legal battle they faced, earning him the title he proudly requested for his final resting place: "Lawyer to the Warriors."
Preserving His Story for the Nation
Grant's extraordinary life, military career, and enduring wisdom have been preserved formally for future generations. Approximately five or six years ago, Grant and Cami recorded an extensive three-to-four-hour oral history recording directly within the office of Congressman Michael C. Burgess. This formal record of his legacy, service, and first-hand experiences has been submitted to the National Archives (and the Library of Congress Veterans History Project), where it remains accessible online for anyone wishing to discover more about this true American patriot.
A Childhood Blessed by Adoption
Grant’s remarkable journey began with a beautiful foundation of love. When he was just two years old, he was adopted in New Orleans by his very special and devoted parents, Denny Seabolt and Roberta Seabolt. Grant was forever blessed by his mother, Roberta, who never left his side from the moment they became a family until the day he went off to college. Grant and Cami recently took a trip down memory lane to visit that childhood home—a little yellow house in New Orleans—posing for a beautiful photograph outside its doors just a few years ago.
Grant cherished his childhood memories with his mom, including their unique pet sugar glider. They would gently toss the sugar glider back and forth across the living room, a game that both Grant and the little creature absolutely loved. Later, when Grant was about twelve, they moved to a house with a vast piece of land. Roberta would tell him, "Go get us something for dinner," and young Grant would head out with his rifle, returning with a squirrel or a possum. Together, they would clean and prepare it, turning it into a fabulous meal. Roberta also made the absolute best real fried chicken in the world. Throughout his life, Grant and Cami visited countless fried chicken restaurants trying to match it, and while a few came close, nothing ever compared to his mother's cooking.
About six weeks before his passing, Grant had a vivid, beautiful dream where his mother came to visit him. Today, the family takes immense comfort in knowing that Grant is in heaven with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, peacefully reunited with his adored mom, his dad, and his beloved dog, Shatzie.
Comfort, Faith, and Sacraments at Home
Grant’s deep faith was central to his life, and he found a true spiritual home at Saint Anne’s Episcopalian Church. He held an immense love for his church family and his brothers in Christ. He fondly remembered the joy of making pancakes alongside his friends for church events and deeply loved the services. He felt uniquely honored whenever he was invited to read scripture before the congregation.
During his last week, Grant was enveloped by profound spiritual support directly at his bedside. Father Andrew from the Episcopalian Church came to the house, where he lovingly administered Grant's Last Rites, prayed over him, and conducted a beautiful, intimate, tiny service in his room alongside his family and his fellow Marine officers. Additionally, Pastor Mark from Concho Hearts Hospice visited several times throughout the week. Pastor Mark spent precious hours talking, praying, and being with Grant, providing immense consolation and guidance to help the entire family through this sacred time.
The Voice of "One Nation Under God"
Beyond the courtroom and the church, Grant was a beloved voice on the airwaves. Alongside his wife Cami Dean and U.S. Army veteran Mark Schmidt, Grant hosted the famous and widely cherished radio broadcast "One Nation Under God" on 660 AM The Answer (KSKY). Airing right after Sean Hannity, the program became a powerful hub for military heroes and national leaders.
Grant and Cami were deeply honored to interview high-profile figures on a regular basis, including Senator Ted Cruz, Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn, Texas Representative Ron Simmons (whose outstanding leadership they greatly appreciated), and General James Williams. Through their close collaboration with Tommy Moore, they were also able to host and interview numerous Medal of Honor recipients.
A truly unforgettable highlight of their broadcasting journey was hosting and interviewing Mark Davis, the legendary Texas talk radio host. Mark Davis lent an incredible amount of support to Grant and Cami's show, a kindness and professional backing that meant the world to them both. As Cami shares: "Thank you, Mark."
The couple shared an immense passion for creating radio commercials with the team at Salem Media in Irving, Texas. Among their most cherished private projects was a promotional commercial they created for the National Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington, Texas. They produced this entirely to help the organization raise necessary funds and spread the proud news that this monument to American heroes was coming to Texas. To everyone involved with Salem Media, Mark Davis, and the loyal listeners of their program, Grant and Cami send their eternal thanks and love.
Surrounded by Military Brothers and Family
Grant's impact on the Marine Corps was so profound that during his final week, his military brothers ran to his side. United States Marine Corps General James Williams (Two-Star General) and his wonderful wife, Maria—two of the most widely loved people in Texas—came immediately to share precious, unforgettable moments with Grant and the family. Additionally, U.S. Marine Corps Col. Mike McCollum rushed to Grant's side and remained there, helping the family in every possible way with immense grace and support.
For Grant’s final week of life, his devoted wife, Cami Dean, his daughter Amy, and his son Austin never left his side. Together, the three of them spent days and days talking to Grant, reminiscing on the beautiful life he built, and honoring the amazing things he did for his family. This sacred, special time will be cherished by Cami, Austin, and Amy for the rest of their lives.
Foundations of Family and Fond Memories
Grant's journey as a father began during his marriage to his first wife, Vicki Rhodes Seabolt. Grant always held a deep appreciation and gratitude for the way Vicki completely devoted herself and her life to raising their two beautiful children, Austin and Amy. One of his absolute fondest memories from that chapter of his life was watching Vicki read to the children—she would read and read and read to them, instilling a lifelong love of learning and creativity.
During those formative years, their beloved family dog, Shatzie, was a central part of the household and loved unconditionally by all. Shatzie left a lasting impression, particularly on Amy. Today, living in New York City, Amy channels that childhood love into taking care of countless dogs for New Yorkers when they travel out of town. Everyone knows Amy is the trusted person to see for animal care, a deep passion and love for dogs that began all those years ago with her very first dog, Shatzie.
A Proud Legacy in His Children
While Grant achieved greatness in his career, his greatest joy and proudest legacy was his children.
From the time his son Austin Seabolt was a young boy, Grant knew he was destined for great things. Grant loved to watch Austin build intricate, massive structures out of K'Nex—including an unforgettable, extensive design that looked like dual Ferris wheels. Today, Austin has turned that early brilliance into a highly successful career specializing in the expertise and assembly of train parts around the world. Grant loved his son deeply and was fiercely proud of every single one of Austin's accomplishments.
His younger daughter, Amy Seabolt, was the apple of his eye. Recognizing her immense creative gifts early on, Grant made it his mission to ensure she could turn her passion into a thriving career. After attending the prestigious Pratt Institute, Amy did exactly that. Today, she is an amazing businesswoman running a stunning, premier art gallery with locations in New York City, Los Angeles, and Miami. Amy is preparing to open a new gallery location in Dallas, Texas. Cami hopes that everyone who knew and loved Grant in Texas would visit Amy’s gallery, connect with her, and bring a piece of her beautiful art into their homes.
An Outstanding and Loving Stepfather
Grant’s love did not stop with his biological children. He opened his heart completely to his stepchildren, Haley Dean and David Dean, loving and raising them entirely as his own. He was an outstanding stepfather who made sure they were always protected, fully provided for, and deeply loved.
With Haley, the family shared exciting trips to Sky Ranch in Colorado. On one memorable drive home, Haley sat in the backseat right behind Grant while he was driving. She quietly opened a fresh box of donuts, letting the sweet aroma drift up to the front seat. Grant, completely unaware of her trick, began sniffing the air and asking, "Why does the car smell so good like donuts?!" It became a legendary family inside joke about "donut perfume"—a fun, special moment they all laughed about and cherished forever.
Grant was also an awesome, devoted stepfather to David, working hand-in-hand with Cami to raise him. Grant absolutely loved taking David to all of his football practices and games, making sure he was signed up for every team, every single year. Together, Grant and David threw well over 10,000 footballs. They would go up to the Dallas Cowboys Star in Frisco, throwing the ball back and forth for hours. They also spent endless hours in their own big front yard, where Cami, Grant, and David would form teams and throw thousands of footballs across the grass. Grant was so incredibly proud of David's football journey that he got himself a special, custom light-blue Rock Hill High School jersey featuring David's name and football number on the back, which he wore to the games. As a family, they even took David on an unforgettable trip to Japan, where they all successfully climbed Mount Fuji together. We all stayed at a military hut for the night on Mount Fuji. Grant truly loved getting to be a dad for David.
A Beautiful Marriage and Joyful Life
Grant was an incredible, adoring husband to his wife, Cami Dean. Though Cami kept her maiden name to maintain consistency for her minor children. Cami and Grant shared so many exciting, hilarious, and incredible moments together that it would be impossible to fit them all into an obituary—it would take an entire book.
Anyone who knew Grant and Cami knows just how true this is. Grant was a naturally jolly, happy, highly social, and fun-loving person who brought a bright light into every room he entered.
Grant leaves behind a legacy of strength, integrity, protection, and fierce family loyalty. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on through the success of his children, the love of his wife, and the countless lives he impacted through his service to his country. As Cami shares from the bottom of her heart: "Grant, I love you. Thank you."
Services and Resting Place
A celebration of life with full military honors will be held on June 15, 2026, at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Grant will be laid to rest in the very same cemetery grounds as the legendary Chosin Reservoir hero, Lieutenant General Richard E. "Dick" Carey.
General Carey’s special monument honoring the historic "Frozen Chosin" history meant the absolute world to the general and his family. Grant and Cami were instrumental in making that monument a reality, working side-by-side to personally raise the first $50,000 for its construction. To launch the effort, Cami personally reached out to FedEx Founder and CEO Fred Smith. Grant and Cami were overjoyed when a FedEx delivery courier arrived at their front door to hand-deliver an envelope labeled directly from Fred Smith, containing their vital inaugural donation. Alongside a significant $75,000 subsequently raised with the dedicated help of Marine Col. Mike McCollum, the funds successfully allowed General Carey to see his monument erected before his passing. Grant now rests proudly alongside the warriors he fought for, both in life and in history.
