Cody Ray Murphy, 32, of Leonard, Texas, passed away on October 15, 2018. He was born on August 1, 1986, the son of Don and Karen Murphy. Cody graduated from Leonard High School in 2005. He had a passion for aviation and took pilot training courses with Monarch Air. He flew solo at Collin County Airport. Cody was a prodigy to his father and grandfather and took great pride in running the family businesses just as the generations before him.

Cody was a friend to everyone he met. He was always eager to lend a hand to those in need and often put others before himself. His friends describe him as fun, loving, generous and laid back. One friend said that “you never knew what you were going to get but you could always guarantee it was going to be a good time.” Another friend described him as “consistent” stating that they could go months or even years without seeing each other but catching up was almost like they had never lost touch. Cody took care of his family and didn’t mind putting off his plans to make sure they were taken care of. Whenever Cody wasn’t working or spending time with family and friends, you could usually find him fishing or tinkering with one of his cars.

Cody is survived by his parents, Don and Karen Murphy of Leonard; paternal grandmother Mary Murphy of Farmersville; maternal grandmother Paula Fisher of Quinlan; uncles Paul Fisher of Arizona and Peter Fisher of Quinlan; Aunt Violet Baugus and husband Mike of Leonard; and cousins Paul Murphy, Nicole Bartlow, Fisher Murphy and Lainey Murphy of Trenton, Kerry Murphy and Ellie Mae Murphy of Leonard, and Amanda Fisher and Lucas Fisher of El Paso. Cody was predeceased by his paternal grandfather Bill Murphy; maternal grandfather Pete Fisher; and uncles Thomas Ray Murphy and Perry Fisher.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home of Leonard, Texas. Family visitation will take place at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Leonard on Thursday, October 18, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The funeral will be held at the Peace Tabernacle Church located at 16020 CR 635 Blue Ridge, TX 75424, on Friday October 19, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Van Alstyne Cemetery, S. Sherman St., Van Alstyne, TX, 75495.
