Clyde Lemoris Mathews, Jr. was born on May 26, 1962, in West Point, Mississippi to Clyde Lemoris Mathews, Sr. and Willie Mae (McCotry) Mathews. Clyde graduated from West Point High School (Class of 1980). He graduated from Jackson State University with a Bachelor’s Arts Degree in Business.
Clyde met his wife, Betty Jean Jefferson, and they married February 13, 1987. They moved to Texas to begin their journey of life, raising their family. Clyde worked in various positions until he began his career as an Allstate Agency Owner. He loved to barbecue, and of course, loved all kinds of sports, especially all the Dallas teams. He especially enjoyed coaching youth sports and mentoring young men. Clyde found joy in both his personal and professional life, but most important to him was caring for his family, whom he deeply loved. Clyde was strong and courageous, meeting life’s challenges with his faith and trust in God. He was a member of Westside Baptist Church, in Lewisville, Texas.
Clyde made his transition from this earthly life to eternal rest on Tuesday, April 16, 2024.
Clyde is survived by his wife, Betty Jean Mathews, of Farmer’s Branch, Texas; sons, Clyde Mathews, III (Makenda) of Midvale, Utah, Rodriquez Ford, of West Point, Mississippi; daughter, Christy White (Marquis), of Fort Worth, Texas. His four grandchildren, Jalon, Mason, Chasity, and Clyde IV. His beloved mother, Willie Mae James, of West Point, Mississippi; father, Clyde Mathews, Sr., of Eastside Chicago, Illinois and grandmother, Betty D. House, of Starkville, Mississippi. His siblings Ruth Williams, of Houston, Texas, Gavis Davis (Michael), Joyce Washington of West Point, Mississippi and brother, Stan Mathews (Cynthia), of West Point, Mississippi. A host of aunts, uncles, cousins and loving family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 3, 2024, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013, Matthew Williams officiating.
