Cleatis Marie (Greenwood) Pearce, 91, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2026, in Azle, Texas. She was born on January 7, 1935, in Celeste, Texas, to Joseph Bailey Greenwood and Edna Mae (Hollis) Greenwood.
Cleatis married William “Bill” Pearce on April 27, 1957, in Fannin County, Texas. Together, they shared 47 years of marriage and built a life centered around family, faith, and love.
Cleatis was a devoted Christian who placed her faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Her faith was an important part of who she was and guided the way she lived her life. She was a longtime member of the Church of Christ in Whitewright, Texas.
Cleatis was also a loving and devoted caregiver. Throughout her life, she selflessly cared for those she loved, including her father, mother, sister, and husband. She gave of herself willingly and without hesitation, demonstrating the compassion, strength, and devotion that defined so much of her life. Caring for her family was not simply something she did, it was an expression of the love she carried for them.
Before her retirement, Cleatis worked at McNeil Laboratories in Austin, Texas. Following her retirement, Cleatis and Bill relocated to Denison, Texas, where they continued their life together until Bill’s passing in January 2005.
After Bill’s passing, Cleatis returned to Whitewright and lived in her parents’ home, a place that held special meaning for her and connected her to her family and her roots. In 2020, she moved to Azle, Texas, to be closer to her family, where she remained until her passing.
Cleatis will be lovingly remembered by her son, Tim Pearce and wife, Lou Ellen, of Azle, Texas; grandchildren, Jackson Pearce and wife, Christy; Jennifer Lynn Crites and husband, Steven; and Bradley Pearce and wife, Carrissa; great-grandchildren, Charlie Crites, Liam Pearce, MacKenzie Pearce, and Robin Pearce; and nieces and nephews, Amy Alaniz, Dan Howell, and Jeff Howell.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William “Bill” Pearce; her parents, Joseph and Edna Greenwood; and her siblings, JoAnn Howell and Kenneth Greenwood.
Cleatis will be remembered not only as a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, wife, and aunt, but as a woman whose life was characterized by faith, family, compassion, and service to others. She gave much of herself to the people she loved, and her legacy will live on through the family she devoted her life to.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 31, 2026, at Hogeye (Celeste) Cemetery, 2772 County Road 1566, Celeste, Texas 75423. Whitewright Church of Christ Minister Terry Northcutt will lead the service and eulogy.
