Clarence Houser of Allen, Texas passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026 at the age of 89. He was born on January 25, 1937 in Wilber, Nebraska to the late Thomas and Margaret (Zoubeck) Houser.
He grew up with his two older brothers on his parents’ farm. He left the farm to attend the University of Nebraska where he earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Chemical Engineering. After graduating, he moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma to begin his professional career with Phillips Petroleum Company – a career that lasted over 35 years. Although he lived in the city, he always kept a large garden full of corn, tomatoes, watermelon, and kahlrabi.
Shortly after moving to Bartlesville, Clarence attended First Baptist Church. He began his relationship with God by placing his faith in Jesus as his Lord and Savior. Through the remainder of his life, Clarence led by example and demonstrated a strong faith in God which had a great impact on many others.
In Bartlesville, he met a young school teacher, Patty Ann Stephens. The two were married on August 4, 1962, and they raised three children together. Those three children each followed his example by getting married and having three children of their own. His grandchildren affectionately called him “Poompaw”. Clarence valued his family greatly. He loved to spend time with his wife, children, in-laws and grandchildren doing things that everyone liked to do together, including fishing, boating, and playing Pretty Princess.
His professional career led him and his family to Indiana, Pennsylvania, back to Bartlesville and eventually to Sugarland, Texas. After retiring, he and Patty moved to McKinney, Texas. Wherever he was, he would find a local bowling league to join. He always enjoyed playing bridge, chess, and all sorts of card and board games. He usually won.
He leaves behind his wife, Patty Houser of Allen, Texas; his daughter, Alicia Crawley and husband, Scott of Jenks, Oklahoma, their children, Jordan Crawley and wife Kelsie, Jonathan Crawley and wife Rachel; his daughter, Vicki Schmidt and husband, Jon of Allen, Texas, their children, Brian Schmidt and wife, Kaci, Kristen Traylor and husband, Will, Gina Schmidt; his son, Stephen Houser and wife, Bethany of Stillwater, Oklahoma, their children, Benjamin, Kate and Elizabeth Houser. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren: Nazareth Crawley, Nineveh Crawley, Danielle Josephine Schmidt, and Jubilee Crawley.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Thomas and Lumir Houser, as well as his granddaughter, Lauren Michelle Crawley.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 20, 2026, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas, 75013. The service will also be live streamed at the following link: https://celebrationoflife.tv/blog/clarence-houser. Interment will be held at Ridgeview Memorial Park following the service.
The family will receive guests during a visitation from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service, at the funeral home.
