IN LOVING MEMORY

Christos Makrigeorgis PhD

Aug 15 1961 - Feb 22 2020

Christos Nikolas Makrigeorgis, Ph.D., of Frisco, Texas, passed away on February 22, 2020, after a courageous 6-year battle with cancer. Christos was born on August 15, 1961, in Morphou, Cyprus. Christos spent his childhood on the island and loved helping his dad care for the many fruit trees that were on their property. He also loved long conversations with his mother, as his sisters would say, Christos was a true “mama’s boy”.

Christos came to the United States in 1980 to attend South Dakota School of Mines and Technology to study engineering. He received his bachelors and masters degrees before moving on to Texas A&M University where he received his doctorate degree.

Christos met his wife Sherri while he was attending Texas A&M University. Sherri made Christos cookies and introduced herself and the rest is history, they were married in December of 1990.

Upon graduation, Christos began his career in Dallas, Texas, with American Airlines and then SABRE Technologies. He went on to work for i2 Technologies before relocating to Atlanta, Georgia, where he worked for Delta Airlines. Christos returned to Texas in 2006 to work for PepsiCo.

Christos spent the last 10 years working for Microsoft as a Data Scientist. Christos made an enormous contribution to Microsoft’s data science community and helped lead his team to winning two industry awards in 2019. Christos was so proud to work for Microsoft and loved solving very difficult problems. Many of Christos’ co-workers commented on his sunny disposition, his sense of humor and his willingness to go above and beyond to get the job done.

Christos also worked as a Ph.D. mentor for Walden University and most recently Columbia Southern University. His students called him “Dr. M” and many of them would say that Christos took the time to teach them to be the best they could be in their field.

Christos is survived by his wife, Sherri Gibson Makrigeorgis; his three daughters, Sofia, Lydia and Ella; his beloved parents, Nikos and Nitsa (Kokotsis) Makrigeorgis; his sisters, Maria Constantinou and her husband Akis; Toula Efthymiades and her husband Michalis; two nieces, Nora and Christiana Constantinou; two nephews, Andreas and Nicolas Efthymiades; several aunts, uncles, cousins and a host of friends.

Family and friends are invited to a Visitation on Thursday, February 27, 2020, at Berkshire Chapel, 9073 Berkshire Drive, Frisco, Texas, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, February 28, 2020, at Ridgeview West Memorial Park, 7800 Sanctuary Drive, Frisco, Texas, at 4:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 5:00 p.m. at Grace Avenue United Methodist Church, 3521 Main Street, Frisco, Texas.
