FC2(SW//AW) Christopher " Kit" Cousins, 30 of Los Altos, CA took his last ride on 12 August 2020.
Kit was born in Mountain View, CA on 24 April 1990, the son of Craig Cousins and Julie Waters. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Conner; stepfather, Jim Waters and step-sisters, Brett and Katy; stepmother, Aggie Cousins and step-sisters, Sheila, Erin and Trinity; grandparents, Dick (veteran of World War 2 and the Korean war) and Santa Cousins; girlfriend, Alyssa Richard and her mom, Kelli (Momma K). He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ivan (Van) and Judy Fucilla.
Kit graduated from Mid-Peninsula High School and studied Automotive Technology before enlisting in the U.S. Navy on 12 April 20I6. He graduated boot camp in June 2016, then attended and graduated PC 'A' school and MK 160 school before reporting to USS MOBILE BAY (CG 53) on 30 April 2018.
When attached to MOBILE BAY he quickly advanced to Second Class Petty Officer and earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist pin after just seven months on board setting the pace on board for his peers to emulate. Five months later while on his around the world deployrnen t he earned his Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist pin. He flawlessly executed a 16-hour Strait Transit, ensuring the ship was safely navigated through the FIFTH Fleet area of operation despite numerous Fast Inshore Attack Crafts inbound.
As a MK I60 operator he fired countless 5-inch rounds in support of various gunnery exercises and the MOBILE BAY ship Olympics ceremony concluding the end of deployment. He masterfully trained and qualified numerous Sailors in the safe and effective employment of the M9, Ml6, M5OO, M2HB, M240 weapon systems, enhancing anti-terroism force protection onboard. Kit was awarded his first Navy and Marine Corps Achievement MedaI in February 2020 for his superb work as a quality assurance and fleet sentencer during two ammunition offloads, resulting in over 15 tons of ammunitions to include 5-inch rounds. CIWS, small arms, mid torpedoes with zero mishaps. Following offload Kit was hand selected to lead ER09 into Mobile Bay’s yard period. His superb leadership led to correcting 600 discrepancies and accomplishing 14.400 preventative maintenance checks.
