IN LOVING MEMORY

Christie Lynn Clayton

Mar 20 1973 - Aug 24 2025

Christie Lynn (Hersey) Clayton, a devoted wife, mother, daughter, and friend, transitioned to her Heavenly Home on August 24, 2025, at the age of 52.

On March 20, 1973, in Chicago, Illinois, Dorothy Jean and Charles Hersey, Jr. were blessed with this beautiful bouncing baby girl. Welcomed by an older brother, Brian Christopher, she became affectionally known as “Christie.”

Education for Christie was not an option as she entered Shoesmith Elementary School, continuing at Louis Wirth Middle School, before graduating high school from Kenwood High School in Chicago in 1991. After high school, Christie continued her undergraduate, graduate, and post graduate degree studies at Xavier University in New Orleans, Louisiana ultimately receiving her Doctor of Pharmacy in 2002. Her commitment to excellence and helping others defined her academic and professional journey.

After graduating pharmacy school, Christie’s career included working as a community pharmacist in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. She served the community as an exceptional pharmacist while establishing lasting relationships with families who cherished her loving smiles and care. Customers often sought advice of “their pharmacist, Dr. Christie” before asking their physician.

On April 11, 2003, Christie united in Holy Matrimony with the love of her life, Dr. George E. Clayton in Grapevine, Texas. God later richly blessed this union with two beautiful children; Aubree Reese and Daniel George. She was a devoted mother who took the role of motherhood to the ultimate heights by putting her career on hold to provide home schooling for her children and ensuring them a solid foundation.

While attending a night church service with friends from college, Christie heard the Gospel of Christ and accepted Him as her personal Savior; as a result, committing to living a Christian life. She was 18 years old. Ironically, Christie met the love of her life while leading a student Bible study group. She often joked about this being the right place to meet a good man. Christie continued her service to the Lord and served in the Women’s Ministry at North Dallas Community Bible Fellowship and One Community Church.

While at Xavier, Christie was a member of the American Pharmacy Association-Academy of Students of Pharmacy. Christie also worked as a student pharmacist laboratory, hospital, and community settings. George and Christie loved the New Orleans food.

Christie had a zest for life that was evident to all who knew her. She loved to travel and explore new places, always eager for the next adventure. Whether browsing her favorite shops or passionately following sports, Christie embraced every moment.

Above all, Christmas held a special place in her heart. Starting in October, she and her daughter Aubree began placing decorations in the house covering every vacant corner, countertop, stairway, fireplace (even the dog’s stocking and bed). Decorations remained in place until the end of January; or sometimes year-round. Every year, she ordered more and more Christmas decorations, especially black Santas! Her most favorite pastime during the summer was to watch EVERY Hallmark Christmas movie starting in the month of July all the way through December.

Christie's love language was gift giving, and she frequently shared her blessing's with family and friends.

Cherished memories remain with Christie’s family: husband, Dr. George E. Clayton of Prosper, Texas; children, Aubree Clayton and Daniel Clayton of Prosper, Texas; mother, Dorothy Jean Hersey of Carrollton, Texas; mother-in-law, Elgie Clayton of Savannah, Georgia; second father (uncle), Dennis Hersey of San Francisco, California; second mother (aunt), Rose Cotton of Mountain View, California; cousin (sister), Qiana Cotton of Mountain View, California; cousin (sister), Nikia Colemen of Frisco, Texas; cousin (sister), Ashli Cotton of Carrollton, Texas; cousin (third child), Manni Cotton of Carrollton, Texas; sister-in-law, Tonya (Antonio) Tate of Terry, Mississippi; brother-in-law, Charles Clayton of Savannah, Georgia; niece, Dr. Nyah Tate of Tupelo, MS; nephew, Clayton Tate of Jackson, MS; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and relatives.
