IN LOVING MEMORY

Charlotte Kathryn Estep

Jun 27 1944 - Jan 19 2022

Charlotte Kathryn Estep passed away on January 19, 2022 from advanced dementia.  She was a beloved aunt, daughter, sister, and teacher to numerous students around the world.  Charlotte was born in McKinney, TX on June 27, 1944 to Judd and Wanda Estep. She grew up in Plano, attended First Baptist Plano as a child, graduated from Plano High School in 1962 and from Baylor University in 1966. She received her master’s in education from East Texas State University, now TAMU Commerce. She taught school in Dallas, Texas; Atlanta, Georgia; Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador, Canada; Plano, Texas, and the Department of Defense Dependents Schools in Okinawa, Japan.  Charlotte was an avid volunteer and participant at her church, First Baptist Atlanta in the 1970s, and Prestonwood Baptist Church from 1985- 2010s, and she worked to lead or assist with Vacation Bible School, AWANA, Children’s Bible Drill, Youth Bible Drill, Youth Speakers’ Tournament, Youth Beach Camp, and Sunday morning children’s classes.

In Atlanta, Charlotte taught at JJ Daniell Middle School in Marietta, GA from 1971-1985.

In Plano, Charlotte taught mostly math and some science at Haggard Middle School from 1985 – 2009. She was well loved by students and parents – the parents knew immediately that she was a great teacher, and the students figured this out by the end of the year or the next year.

In 1989, Charlotte faced and conquered a sincere threat to her life – metastatic breast cancer.   She would go on to fight off skin cancer and uterine cancer successfully.

In no particular order, Charlotte loved kids, Baylor University, her family, and her friends.  Charlotte had many true friends for over 40 years who still kept up through the years as their families grew and they moved across the United States. She invested in her friends like family, hosting and attending get-togethers, exchanging sincere and meaningful experiences, and encouraging those in her life.

Charlotte loved the Lord Jesus Christ and studied the Word, relying on his grace to live each day. To our knowledge, she never denied the faith, even as she suffered from dementia.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her father Judd (1970), her mother Wanda (2021), and her younger sister Mitzi (2012).  Charlotte is survived by her niece, who is practically her daughter, Brittany and  her husband, Ed Kelly, and her two great-nephews Jonathan and Edward Kelly. Numerous friends and former students also retain Charlotte’s legacy today.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 12, 2022 at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home Chapel, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
