Charles Michael "Mike" Martin

Charles Michael Martin was born September 3, 1944 in Bryan, Texas to George Martin and Louise Risinger Martin. He passed away on October 20, 2021 in Savoy, Texas at the age of 77 years.

Mike graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School in Austin, Texas in 1963. He then attended Texas A&M University class of 1967. While applying for a job at company he met the love of his life Louisa Lackey. He and Louisa were married on September 20, 1968 in Dallas, Texas. Together they made a family with their daughter Melissa in Whitewright.

Mike was an Engineer working for Ingersoll-Rand, Atlas Copco for over 31 years in Garland. He was HAZMAT Certified internationally. He also did engineering coordination for ECI for software changes and updates. He was a member of APICS Society holding the CPIM certification.

Mike served his community in many ways. He served on the Whitewright City Council for 14 years beginning in 2003 and on the Whitewright Community Development Corporation Board 4B for 15 years. While President of the 4B Board he oversaw the building of Goodson Children’s Park which is enjoyed by children of all ages. Families enjoy the park for picnics and outdoor activities. His legacy continues to bless the families of Whitewright as they enjoy the fruits of his labors on the 4B Board. Mike and Louisa were citizen of the year in Whitewright.

Mike loved to get his hands dirty working in his yard as he gardened. He loved roses and gardening, and was a member of THORS (Texoma Herbs and Old Rose Society). He loved reading and enjoyed live theater and art.

Mike is survived by his daughter, Melissa Booth and husband Michael; sister, Pat Gibson; brother, Pete Martin; sister, Molly Martin; Aunt, Virginia White; cousin, Bud Alford; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louisa Martin; parents, Dr. George Martin and Louise Martin.

A Memorial Service will be held 10AM Saturday November 20, 2021 at the First United Methodist Church, Whitewright, Texas.
