Charlene Lavern Swalm passed away at the age of 91 at her home in Plano, TX on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, surrounded by family & her dedicated caregivers.  Charlene was born August 10, 1931, to Nina (Miller) & Clifford Garner, in San Diego, CA where she grew up & attended La Jolla High School.  She married the love of her life, Thomas Sterling Swalm, in La Jolla, CA, on June 26, 1954, & they were blessed with two children, Edward & Lori.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 60 years, Major General Thomas (Tom) Sterling Swalm. Charlene spent many years as a USAF wife & traveled with her husband & family to assignments throughout the United States, Europe & Southeast Asia.  Charlene enjoyed the many lifelong friends she & Tom made in the Air Force community & in retirement. She was a loyal friend, a consummate hostess & a loving mother, grandmother, & great grandmother. Charlene was dearly loved & will be greatly missed by all those who knew her.

Charlene is survived by her children, Ed Swalm & his wife, Dolores, and Lori Swalm; her grandchildren, Thomas Swalm & his wife Amanda, Stephanie Jones & her husband James, Matthew Swalm & his wife Hilary, Alexandra Lee & her husband Richard, Ryan Swalm & his wife Emily, and Erica Swigart & her fiancé Kevin Tatom; her great-grandchildren, Emma Jones, Caden Swalm, Parker Jones, Remi Jones, Hunter Swalm, Sterling Swalm, and Beau Lee.

The family is truly grateful to Charlene’s caregivers, Elizabeth & Poline, for the many years of kind & loving care that she received, especially in the last days & moments before her passing.

Memorials may be given to the SPCA in honor of her & her beloved schnauzer, Ben.  A Funeral Service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery Old Post Chapel at a later date where she will rest in peace forever reunited with her husband Tom.  A celebration of her life will be held January 8, 2023, at her home in Plano, Texas.
