Chánh Trong Nguyen, Buddhist name Thích Chánh Minh, passed away on July 1, 2021 in McKinney Texas at the age of 81.  He was born on March 6, 1940.  In early 1960, he joined the south Vietnamese military and became a marine officer.  In 1964, he was selected to a group of five officers for training in Virginia, The United States.  In 1979, he orchestrated an escape from the Vietnamese communists to seek freedom via a small boat carrying 45 people aboard. After 21 days floating in the ocean, we landed at a refugee camp in Indonesia.  ?In August 1979, our family was sponsored by the First Baptist Church of Plainview and arrived in the United States. Within the first few years, he received an Associate degree in Electronic Technology, while working full time supporting his family.  Later, he was able to open his own electronic service business.  In 2008, he decided to dedicate the rest of his life in search of enlightenment in Buddha philosophy and meditation.

He was an amazing and loving father and grandfather to his family and loved ones. He was known for his contagious laugh and smile and joyful spirit. He worked hard, but also knew how to show everyone how to enjoy life through the little things. He shared his wisdom and life experiences to many.
