CDR Jose Felix Salas, Jr. (Ret.)

Jul 01 1941 - Dec 21 2015

Jose Felix Salas Jr. 74, returned to his heavenly home on December 21, 2015 after a valiant battle with a long illness. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.

Jose was born to the late Jose F. Salas Sr. and Vicenta Salas, a Methodist minister and a homemaker respectively, in El Paso, TX on July 1, 1941. He was a Commander in the United States Navy. He served as a Chaplain and retired with Military Honors in 1991. He also retired as a pastor with the Rio Grande Methodist conference. He graduated from McMurry College and SMU Perkins School of Theology.

Jose was blessed with a loving family. He married his best friend and High School sweetheart, Alicia Maldonado, on February 5, 1960 in Seguin, TX. Jose helped raise his three children with patience, discipline and humility. He taught them the Bible and how our Lord Jesus Christ should be in our daily lives. He often took them on long family trips to see the country. From the very beginning, he dedicated his children to God and encouraged them to explore the beauty of the gospels.

Jose loved to read and travel with Alicia all over the world. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, cousin and in-law. He is very dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator.

Jose is survived by his wife, Alicia; his sons Ricardo Noel (Diana) and Jose III (Diane); his daughter Cynthia Maria Daniels; his grandchildren James Daniels (Mercedes), Jose F. Salas IV (Coley), Ricardo Salas II, Michael Salas, Dominique Daniels, Brandon Salas and Bryan Salas; Great grandchildren: Jose F. Salas V, Ajax Salas, Eli Daniels and Logan Daniels. He is also survived by his sister Grace Henson and brother Johnny Salas (Rosemary). He is also survived by numerous nephews, nieces, and other family members. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother Ricardo Noel Salas and son-in-law James Daniels.

Jose’s life will be celebrated on December 28th at Turrentine-Morrow-Jackson Funeral Home Chapel. Viewing will be from 4pm to 6pm. Services start at 6:30 pm and reception to follow in the reception area. Graveside service will be at 11:00 am December 29th at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Grand Prairie, Texas with full military honors.
