IN LOVING MEMORY

Carolyn Cummings Mills

Apr 15 1938 - May 10 2021

Carolyn Cummings Mills went to be with her Lord on May 10, 2021 after a long struggle with a chronic immune disease. She was born April 15, 1938 in Hope, Arkansas but grew up in Hobbs, New Mexico where her father had found work after the Great Depression. After graduating from High School, she attended Texas Tech University as a staunch RED RAIDER. (Her grand-daughter Cameron did her proud by choosing the same university).

She met her future husband, Ed, her senior year in high school while he was working in the oil fields of the Permian Basin for college money. They married two years later June 29, 1958 moving to Mineral Wells, Texas where Ed was stationed in the Army. Later they briefly lived in Holdenville, OK and Oklahoma City before finally landing in Durant, OK where they resided 25 years raising two daughters. During the years there, she enjoyed playing tennis and golf, but she was mainly a devoted mother to Carrie and Melanie and a major part of Ed’s success in the community. She had a close-knit group of friends and they were constantly involved with their family and community in addition to perusing new adventures.

Carolyn and Ed made their way to Texas in 1988, first living in Addison before relocating to Fairview. They traveled extensively before retiring to the Heritage Ranch community where she developed and treasured new friends as well as having the opportunity to be near her daughters and their families.

One of her many joys was visiting with her only brother Steve, and his family, whether in Virginia or on their trips to Texas. She has a special place in her heart for her nieces Laurie and Brandi.

Carolyn was affectionately called Nana by her family and she was ‘over the moon’ for her grandchildren and eventually great-grandchildren. She openly would share with anyone funny stories and antics about them and proudly proclaim their accomplishments.

She was particularly proud of and blessed by her two sons-in-laws, Wesley and Paul who lovingly bantered with and dotted on her as only they could.

She was a grand lady and was the epicenter of her family despite her battles with Rheumatoid Arthritis and its complications.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, Ed of 63 years; daughters, Carrie Williams (Wesley) of Allen, TX; Melanie Stokes (Paul) of Richardson, TX; grandchildren, Cameron Cazzelle, Taylor Cazzelle (Melissa), Weston Williams (Alyssa), Brandon Williams (Tarrah), Kaylie Stokes, Madeline Stokes and Hunter Stokes; great-grandchildren, Corrigan, Abbott, Hayes and Hannah; brother, Steve Cummings; nieces, Laurie Cummings and Brandi Cummings.

A Celebration of life is scheduled for 3:00 p.m., May 18, 2021, at the Creekwood United Methodist Church, 261 Country Club Road, Allen, Texas 75002.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Creekwood UMC Children’s Ministries.
