Carole Camille (Toland) Tatum, a loving mother, wife, and sister, passed away in Allen, Texas, on June 13, 2024, at the age of 80. She was born on March 22, 1944, in Jackson, Mississippi, to William G. and Eveline Bush Toland. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, COL Charles Tatum, Sr. (USAF, Ret.).
Carole graduated from Waco High School in Waco, Texas, and received a bachelor's degree in education and English literature from Baylor University. On October 29, 1966, she married U.S. Air Force Lieutenant Charles Tatum. For the next 27 years, they lived a very active life as she supported her husband's military career and they raised four children, living on military bases throughout the U.S. and around the world. She participated in many leadership roles in the military community. Her home was filled with beautiful antiques and other items that demonstrated her love and appreciation for the culture and history of all the places she had visited. She was a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys and, in her later years, an avid and devoted fan of Texas A&M, especially football and baseball.
She is survived by her children, Charles Thomas Tatum, Jr. (Brea), Judith Carole Newcomb (Scott), William Richardson Tatum (Laila), and Jefferson Perry Tatum; her sister, Judith Toland Houchens; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; her aunt, Becky Toland Walker; and many cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at Turrentine Jackson Morrow Funeral Home in Allen, Texas.
