Carol McDowell, 77, of Frisco, Texas, passed away on March 30, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and love that touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Born on December 7, 1948, in San Jose, California, to Anton and Olga Marinovich, Carol grew up surrounded by a large, close-knit Croatian family. She married her high school sweetheart, Dennis McDowell, and together they shared 56 wonderful years of memories, adventures, and lots of love.
Carol built a remarkable career with the Berryessa Union School District, starting as a teacher's aide and working her way up through various positions before joining the district office in human resources. Over her 30 years with the district, she became known not just for her dedication but for the genuine care she showed everyone around her.
Carol's life outside of work kept her busy and always caring for others. She hosted memorable gatherings—her annual gingerbread parties with her Frisco friends were a highlight—and established a family reunion tradition to stay connected. Carol also enjoyed cooking classes, calligraphy, and crocheting gifts like blankets and slippers for loved ones. She traveled frequently, loved a good book, played mahjong, and even completed several 5K races in her thirties. She was a faithful 49ers fan, especially while living in Cowboy territory. Her legendary chocolate chip cookies and other treats made every guest feel nourished and cherished. Carol greeted everyone as a friend, effortlessly creating warmth and belonging wherever she went. She was a dedicated volunteer at the Frisco Family Services Market and the Scottish Rite Children's Hospital, always lifting spirits and encouraging confidence in those she helped.
More than anything, Carol loved her family. She was an amazing mother and a proud grandmother to Amanda McDowell, Lilli Cunningham, and Shaylin Cunningham. Beaming with pride, she would happily tell anyone who would listen about their accomplishments.
Carol is survived by her beloved husband, Dennis McDowell; her son, Dennis (Carolyn) McDowell; her daughter, Lori (Lance) Cunningham; her aunt, Pearl Fitzpatrick; her three grandchildren (Amanda, Lilli and Shaylin); and her brothers, Michael (Sherry) and Tommy (Patricia) Marinovich. She was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Olga Marinovich; her brother, Greg Marinovich; and her sisters, Katherine Soares and Sunday Marinovich.
Carol lived her life with a generous spirit and a heart rooted in her Catholic faith. She now rests in the arms of her Savior, and will always be remembered for her love, generosity, and hospitality.
