Carol Ann Matesic of Allen, Texas, passed away on August 10, 2026. She was born to Joseph William McCay Jr. and Marlene Maria (Obsharsky) McCay on June 15, 1957, in Charleroi, Pennsylvania.
Carol married Gary Matesic on January 29, 1987, in Dallas, Texas. During their nearly forty years of marriage, Carol and Gary built a life together traveling across the country and world with their three daughters, enjoying Tex-Mex (and plenty of red wine) with friends, cuddling their three dogs, and running their shared businesses.
Carol is survived by her husband, Gary Matesic of Allen, Texas; daughter, Jaclyn Macioce and husband Tom of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and their children, Dominic, Carmella, and Adelina; daughter, Lauren St. Laurent and husband John, of Los Angeles, California, and their daughter, Aurora; daughter, Alyssa Matesic and husband, Jason Chan of Brooklyn, New York, who are expecting a baby boy; sister, Cynthia Havrilak and husband, Thomas of Suwanee, Georgia; and brother, William McCay and wife Connie of Salem, Virginia.
Carol was the type of woman who could truly do it all, and she made everything and everyone she touched better. She built a thriving business and raised three independent daughters while still finding time to nurture annual traditions her loved ones looked forward to all year. Her Halloween and Christmas parties were legendary, and nothing made her happier than a home extravagantly decorated for the season full of the people she loved.
Carol spent the first 15 years of her professional life as a registered nurse, specializing in operating room and plastic surgery nursing. In 1996, her lifelong interest in antiques and appreciation for the history behind beautiful items led to her founding JLA Treasures, which Carol and Gary grew into one of North Texas’ most respected estate liquidation and personal property appraisal firms.
Over the course of more than three decades, she found fulfillment helping families and estate planning professionals navigate the often-difficult process of settling estates and finding new homes for a lifetime of treasured possessions. Carol held the prestigious ISA CAPP (Certified Appraiser of Personal Property) designation through the International Society of Appraisers—the organization's highest professional credential—and in 2026 earned the organization’s Outstanding Colleague Award.
A warm spirit who always opened her home and heart to others, Carol took great pride not only in her business, but also in the people who helped build it with her. JLA Treasures continues today with a dedicated team of longtime employees whom Carol and Gary have always considered part of their extended family.
Carol was a lifelong Episcopalian. During her final days, she reconnected with the priest she met when she was 19 years old, the Rt. Rev. Keith Ackerman, now a bishop. Their renewed connection brought great comfort to Carol and her family during a deeply meaningful time.
She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph William McCay Jr., her mother, Marlene Maria Burrow, and her stepfather, Kenneth Burrow.
Visitation will be held Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. A memorial service celebrating Carol’s life will be held Monday, August 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home in Allen. A second visitation will be held Sunday, August 23, 2026, from 6:00–8:00 p.m. at Beinhauer Family Funeral Home, 2630 West Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15216. Interment will take place at 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 24, 2026, at the Matesic family plot in Mount Lebanon Cemetery, 509 Washington Road, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15228.
