IN LOVING MEMORY

Carlos Leon Bennett

Jul 17 1938 - Oct 21 2023

Carlos Leon Bennett passed away peacefully on October 21, 2023 at home surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Ennis, Texas on July 17, 1938 to Albert and Effie Palmer Bennett.

Carlos grew up in Farmersville where he played all sports and was named most handsome in his class. He married his high school sweetheart Nancy James Bennett on Jan. 8, 1960. Carlos was in the army for two years and was stationed at Fort Riley in Kansas. After leaving the army, he and Nancy moved back to Texas and set up residence in Garland, Texas where Carlos began his career at Safeway. Carlos and Nancy had two children, Carla Susanne and Joel Todd, who were the joy of his life. He and Nancy joined Axe Memorial United Methodist Church and were faithful members of the Pathfinders Sunday School class for 50 years. They enjoyed working with the youth and accompanied them on many mission trips. When Carlos retired, he was recruited by a friends to volunteer with "Love in Action", a nonprofit organization that sent medical and dental equipment and supplies to 3rd world countries. He always got a kick out of driving around in a truck with the words "Love in Action" emblazoned on the side! Carlos was an avid fisherman and had the most crappie desirable houseboat at East Fork Marina where he offered free coffee and insults to fellow fisherman. He taught many young men and women how to catch crappie and loved telling his fishing stories. He had a wicked sense of humor and was a masterful jokester. If he joked or picked at you, it meant he liked and cared about you. He had specific things he teased each person about and they were always spot on. Carlos never liked being recognized for things he did for others. He always said you shouldn’t be singled out for doing the right thing. Carlos was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Evelyn Bennett and his wife of 48 years, Nancy James Bennett.

He is survived by his children Carla Bennett and Todd Bennett (Amy).

A memorial hamburger cookout is planned for Saturday, Nov. 11 from 12:30-3:00.

In lieu of flowers please make memorials to Axe Memorial Unite Methodist Church 1700 W. Kingsley Road Garland, Texas 75041.
