Carlene (Shinn) Bobitt, a resident of Farmersville, Texas, passed away April 26, 2026 at the age of 97. She was born near Blue Ridge on January 25, 1929, to John Ross Shinn and Mary Ethelene (Patterson) Shinn in Collin County, Texas.
Carlene was raised in Collin County and graduated from Farmersville High School in 1946. She met Thomas William “Bill” Bobitt, who proposed on the first date, and they were married in June of 1947 in Collin County, celebrating 57 years of marriage.
Bill and Carlene owned a print shop, then an advertising specialties business, and later Carlene and her daughter and granddaughter founded Pieville USA on the Farmersville square.
Carlene had a deep love for music and the arts. She was very active in her church, serving as choir librarian, and found great joy in singing, and playing the piano and cello. She was an accomplished artist of hill country landscapes, studying with Victor Armstrong. She also sewed, knitted and sold her crafts.
Carlene is survived by her daughter, Elisë Bobitt of Farmersville, Texas; granddaughter, Marissa Gabrielle Bobitt-Gonzales also of Farmersville; sisters, Frances Eugenia Dunagan of McKinney, Texas, and Brenda Kain (husband Gary) of Brea, California; and a host of extended family members and friends, who will miss her and cherish her memory.
Carlene was preceded in death by her parents Ross and Ethelene Shinn, and husband, Bill Bobitt.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, May 4, 2026, at First United Methodist Church, 315 N Church Street, McKinney, Texas 75069, followed by a reception. After the service, a procession will make its way to Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Climax, Texas for a short committal service.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
