Carla Lee Gilbert, age 77, of Krugerville, Texas, passed away April 10, 2017. Carla was born January 2, 1940, in Martinsburg, West Virginia, to Carl Perry and Mary Arnetta (Miller) Friski. She graduated from high school in Martinsburg and received a bachelor degree from College Park in Baltimore, Maryland. Carla met her future husband, George Gilbert, on a blind date while she was employed in the Pentagon and he was in the United States Army. They moved several times before settling in Louisiana. Later, they moved to Garland, Texas in the 1980s and then to McKinney, Texas in 2000. Carla worked for Gibson, McClure, Wallace and Daniels law firm in Dallas as a legal secretary for over twenty years before retirement. After retirement, she couldn’t sit still. Carla volunteered as a secretary for McKinney Seniors Helping Seniors for the last five years and also volunteered with Meals on Wheels switching their files to paperless. She always gave back to her community.
She is survived by her daughters, Helen Sims, Leigh Price, and Susan Alatzas and husband, Ari; grandchildren, Leigh Jimenez-Price and wife, Gladys, Elizabeth McLane and husband, Andrew, Ashleigh Quinn, Natalie Quinn, Samuel Houston Adams, and Willow Anastasia Alatzas; and great-grandchild, Gabriel McLane.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Rupert Gilbert, brother, Perry Carl Friski, and sister, Rebecca Watson.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Friday, April 14, 2017, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas.
