Camma Fowler was called home to be with her Lord on January 2, 2017. She was born May 8, 1943, the middle child of three children born to Jesse Allen and Camma Holladay Cook of Andalusia, Alabama. Her beloved mother and father preceded her in death. She married the love of her life, the Rev. Dr. Paul B. Fowler on June 25, 1966 in First Baptist Church of Andalusia. They have been married for over 50 years.
Along with her devoted husband, she is also survived by two sons, Paul Fowler and wife Mary Beth and their two children, Cynthia and Janele of Albany, New York, and John Fowler and wife Barbara and their six children, Camma, Jonas, Lana, Samuel, Nathan and Mercy of Fairview, Texas. She is survived by two brothers, Allen Edward Cook and wife Dorothy of Andalusia, Alabama, and the Rev. David William Cook and wife Theresa of Cantonment, Florida. She is also survived by numerous brother and sister-in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Camma attended high school in Andalusia where among many other things she was in the band, a cheerleader and in the honors club. At Birmingham Southern College she was an honors student. She finished at Auburn University and saw the world as a stewardess for Delta Airlines. Prior to her marriage, she worked in the National Parks and at church camps. After they were married, she taught history, speech and debate in high schools. Together, they lived for extended periods of time in Scotland, Germany and Israel. But her primary occupation until her death was that of a mother, a pastor’s wife and a partner in ministry. It is impossible to do justice to this last role for it is indispensable, demanding and necessary for fruitful ministry and in all these things she did not disappoint our Lord! She is dearly loved and missed by all: MARANATHA!
The funeral service for Camma Fowler will be held in the chapel of the First Baptist Church of Andalusia, Alabama, on Saturday, January 7th. Visitation will be from 1-2 pm, and the service from 2-3 pm. The Rev. Dr. Bryant McGee, her pastor from McKinney, Texas, will lead the worship service.
In lieu of flowers, friends are encouraged to donate in Camma’s name to Bayside Medical Missions, P.O. Drawer 949, Fairhope, AL 36533, or http://www.baysidemedicalmissions.org/giving, a wonderful medical ministry in Christ’s name to some of the poorest in Ecuador.
