Camilla Phelps Smith

Annie Camilla (Phelps) Smith, age 88, died on Thursday, September 9, 2004 at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, PA. Born and raised in Celina, Texas, Camilla was the daughter of Thomas and Nancy Phelps of Celina, Texas. She was the beloved wife of Allison Doyle Smith for 58 years. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband as well as her brother Ennis Phelps and her two sisters, Beulah P. Landry and Dorothy Jewel Phelps. Camilla was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. Celina was very special place to Camilla all her life. She would visit family and friends as often as she could and would attend various reunions when ever possible. She never forgot her roots. She was a member of the Celina Church of Christ during her youth. She was Valedictorian of her graduation class of Celina High School. Camilla and Doyle over the years were residents of Dallas, TX, Dumas, TX, Oklahoma City, OK, and Colorado Springs, CO. She and her husband started and operated a number of successful family businesses during their years together. After moving to Colorado Springs, CO. she was employed as an executive secretary at Colorado Interstate Gas (CIG) Corporation in Colorado Springs, CO where she retired in 1986 after 25 years service. In 1996 she moved east first to Lakewood, NJ and a few years later to Bristol, PA. Each of these moves was to enable her to be close to children and grandchildren. She was living in Bristol, PA at the time of her death. She was a member of the Lower Bucks Church of Christ in Levittown, PA. Camilla is survived by her son Tommy D. Smith and his wife Gae of Langhorne, PA; daughter Dorothy S. Tonks and her husband Harry of Clearwater, FL; four grandchildren; Holly S. Eckhart and her husband Milton of Bristol, PA; Dr.Dustin D.Smith and his wife Nancy of San Bernardino,CA; Jennifer T.Kovacs and her husband Michael of Concord, CA; Krisin T. Greene and her husband Bradley of Trinity, FL; and four great grandchildren; Thomas Harris Eckhart, Choloe Camille Eckhart, Laura Kate Eckhart and Langley Grace Smith. Arrangements are under the direction of Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Directors of Celina, Texas. Visitation for family and friends is planned for Thursday evening, September 16, 2004 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. A “Celebration of Life” service will be held Friday, September 17, 2004 at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Officiating the service will be Brothers Ernest Landry, Jr., her Nephew and Milton D. Eckhart, who is Camilla’s Grandson. Interment will follow in the Old Celina Cemetery.
