Calvin Call, age 91, of Garland, Texas, passed away September 18, 2008, in Garland. Calvin was born September 1, 1917 in Vera, Texas, to Joseph Carroll and Bessie (Wiggins) Call. He married Helen Lucretia Neece January 13, 1936 in Benjamin, Texas and she preceded him in death on January 11, 1994. Calvin later married Gladys Brown on March 23, 1997, in Garland. He grew up around Munday, Texas and moved to Lubbock, Texas in the 1950’s. Calvin was self-employed in the remodeling industry as a painter, carpenter, and paper hanger. He moved to Garland, Texas in 1977 and worked for the Garland Police Department as a crosswalk guard. He is survived by his wife, Gladys Call of Garland, Texas; sons, Clifford Clinton Call and wife, Helen of Ladonia, Texas, Darrell Calvin Call of Garland, Texas, and Bobby Zelton Call of Wylie, Texas; daughter, Bessie Aretia Cannon and husband, Don of Abernathy, Texas; eighteen grandchildren; forty-four great-grandchildren; twenty-three great-great-grandchildren; brother, Valvin Call of Wynnewood, Oklahoma; sister, Helen Felton of Portland, Oregon; a host of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, September 22, 2008, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Chapel in Allen, Texas with Rev. Ray McGregor officiating. Interment will follow at Ridgeview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends during a visitation beginning at 2:00 PM Sunday afternoon.
