Byron Lee Burns

Byron Lee Burns of Wilson, Oklahoma, passed away after a short illness on May 9, 2018, at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 70.  He was born April 5, 1948, in Thomas, Oklahoma, to Rev. A.E. & Kathleen (Sweeney) Burns.

He graduated from high school in Artesia, New Mexico, in 1966 and served in the United States Army as a proud Vietnam Veteran.  He met the love of his life as a teenager and married her, Lois Jean Pruitt, on June 30, 1968.  Upon his honorable discharge, Byron began his career with Shell Pipeline, living in Denver City, then McCamey, Midland & Houston, retiring in 2003.  He was a gifted church organist & a lifelong Baptist, becoming a Christian at the age of five years old.  He was a devoted husband, dedicated father & fun loving grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Lois, daughter Sheryl Cavin, son Michael (Donna) Burns, and son Stephen (Jaime) Burns; his grandchildren Maddie, Emma & Jackson Cavin; Shawn Fangman, Aubrey, Lauren, Zachary & Nathan Burns; Keith, Bryant & Jordan Burns.  He is also survived by sister in law Janet Reynolds, brother Bobby (Denise) Burns, sister Tricia (Steve) Irion, & sister in law Marty Burns.  Also, niece Francis Yerger & nephews Damon Broxson & Austin Burns.

He is predeceased by his parents, brother David Burns, in laws Everett & Zulie May Pruitt & nephew Tyler Burns.

Viewing will be Tuesday, May 15, 2018, from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Healdton, Oklahoma.  The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the same location.  Burial is at Roselawn Cemetery in Mangum, Oklahoma, on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at 1:00 p.m.
