Burton Loftus of Allen, Texas passed away peacefully after an extended illness. He was surrounded by love from his wife and daughter.
Burton was born in the Keatchie community of De Soto Parish, Louisiana, the second child of A.V. Loftus and Faia Hassle Loftus Hebert. He grew up in the farming community among a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. He met Jesus his Lord and Savior in a country church there. He attended school at Longstreet until moving to Shreveport as a senior in high school. He graduated from Fair Park High School in 1954.
He soon moved to Dallas to work in the electrical supply industry. While attending First Baptist Dallas, he met the love of his life, Nell Walls. The two married in 1967 and had one daughter Katie. The family settled in Flower Mound, Texas and faithfully attended Lakeland Baptist Church and then First Baptist Church Flower Mound. At each church Burton served God. He worked in the Good Shepherd Ministry in Dallas, drove a bus Sunday morning at Lakeland, worked in the nursery and went on mission trips at FBC- Flower Mound.
After retiring from the electrical supply industry, Burton worked in maintenance at FBC- Flower Mound and drove a school bus for Lewisville ISD. After moving to Allen to be closer to their daughter, Burton continued to serve the community by working as a crossing guard for Allen ISD. He and Nell became members of First Baptist Church Allen.
In his 89 years he lived a life he could hardly imagine growing up in the small community of Keatchie. He loved sports, especially high school football. He loyally held season tickets to the Lewisville Fighting Farmers, then the Marcus Marauders, and finally the Allen Eagles. He was known to enjoy a Texas A&M game from time to time and kept up with LSU in his later years. He was blessed to live long enough to see the Texas Rangers win the World Series. Burton was an avid reader who frequently read multiple books at a time. Burton will be remembered as someone willing to help others and his love for God. In his months of illness, he never lost his faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Andy Loftus and Danny Loftus, and sister, Edith Henderson. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Nell, cherished daughter, Katie, loving sister, Susie Atkinsson, wonderful sister-in-law, Zelda Loftus, devoted cousins Pat and Linda Loftus, and nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family would like to thank the kind caregivers at Texas Health Plano and Vibra Hospital of Richardson. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to either Texas on Mission or The Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at Sonora Cemetery, 6639 CR 4705 Commerce, Texas 75428. The family will receive guests for a visitation from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Tuesday morning at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013.
