IN LOVING MEMORY

Bruce Lynn Powell

Nov 21 1944 - Nov 24 2024

Bruce Lynn Powell was born on November 21, 1944, in Wellington, Texas, to Bruce E. Powell and Wanda June (Craven) Powell. He passed away peacefully in his home in Mansfield, Missouri on November 24, 2024 at the age of 80.

Bruce grew up in Amarillo, Texas, where at the age of 14, he met the love of his life Carolyn Sue Collie. After graduation from Palo Duro High School, they celebrated their lifelong love and commitment to each other at their wedding in July of 1964. They were married for 50 years until her death in 2014.

Bruce spent his life working hard to provide for his wife and four children. After training at General Motors Training Center in Oklahoma, he worked for Garner Olds Cadillac in Amarillo, Texas. He joined the Amarillo Police Department in 1966 and spent six years in law enforcement with APD, Irving PD, and the Potter County Sheriff's Office. He then began a 22-year career at ASARCO in Amarillo. After retirement, Bruce studied and received certification as Graduate Master Builder. For many years he supported his family, owning and operating his custom home building business with his wife Susie.

Bruce was driven to help young men who grew up fatherless, as he had also. After a move to Grayson County, he became a volunteer minister at the Air Chapel Organization. He offered guidance, hope, and a sense of purpose to young men struggling and in need of positive influence at the Grayson County Juvenile Detention Center.

Bruce is survived by his loving daughter, Tiffany Maxwell and husband, Jeff, of Melissa, Texas; his devoted daughter, Jennifer Oden and husband, Kyle, of Mansfield, Missouri; and his favorite daughter Cindy J. Long and husband, Jeff of  Denison, Texas; grandchildren include, Katie Maxwell - Turner of Lubbock, Texas, Joshua Maxwell of Dallas, Texas; Matthew Maxwell and Olivia Andrade of Denton, Texas, and Abigail Oden of Mansfield, Missouri; great grandchildren Noah Turner, Daniel Turner, and Nathaniel Turner of Lubbock, Texas; and a host of family and friends, who will miss him dearly and forever cherish his memory.

In his own words: “Jesus Christ is Lord of all Creation and He is my Friend. He has promised to never place more burdens on me than can be handled. I trust Him!”
